One of Jack Daniel’s earliest jugs (c. 1865-1870)

Weekly 150: Jack Daniel

Last week, much to my chagrin, I was not only surprised by the story of Lem Motlow but also by the fact that I have never written about one of Tennessee’s most prolific sons, Jack Daniel. I’m not one to shy away from occasional libations, especially one of the brown spirit nature. So this week, it is a fine time to devote a little ink to the whiskey maker.
50 Years Ago — Kaye Kirk, Gaye Hickman, Elaine Williams, Tammy James, Phylis Buck, Faye Finley and Krystal Twiggs went to Jackson for the FHA West Tennessee Regional Convention to attend conferences and a banquet.

HUNTINGDON (March 13) — Sixty years of private law practice and no intention of retiring. W. Kent Jones has been a central figure in Carroll County, serving clients in all aspects of legal practice. That’s something in which he takes great pride. But one of his favorite joys is talking about his many years of serving as the radio announcer of high school and college sports, a passion that started as a senior at McKenzie High School when he worked as a disc jockey for WHDM radio.
