MELINDA RHEA GARRETT
1982-2006
MCKENZIE:
Melinda Rhea Garrett, age 23, of McKenzie died suddenly at McKenzie Regional Hospital on March 28, 2006, following a short illness. Funeral services were Friday, March 31, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, McKenzie. Brother Clayton Owen and Brother Dennis Trull delivered the eulogy. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Brummitt Funeral Home of McKenzie was in charge of services.
Melinda was born December 1, 1982 to Dale and Fay Elam Garrett of McKenzie. She was a 2001 graduate of McKenzie High School, where she was an honor student and a member of the cheerleading squad. She attended the University of Tennessee at Martin for four years, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. While at UTM, she was president of Panhellenic Council, a member of the homecoming court, and a member of the Miss UTM royalty. She was also a University Scholar.
She was a first year pharmacy student at the U.T. College of Health Sciences in Memphis and a member of First Baptist Church, McKenzie.
Survivors include her parents, Dale and Fay Garrett; a sister, Anna Garrett of Nashville; and a grandmother, Rachel Elam of Greenfield. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Jack Ray Elam Sr. and her paternal grandparents, Sam and Novella Garrett.
A scholarship fund has been established at UT College of Pharmacy School in memory of Melinda. Checks may be made payable to UT College of Pharmacy. On the memo line put "Melinda Garrett Scholarship Fund." Ronnie Harper
1945-2006
PARIS:
Ronnie Harper, 60, died Tuesday, March 28, at Henry County Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 30, at Ridgeway Funeral Home. Tommie Dicus officiated the service. Burial followed in Bevil Cemetery.
Mr. Harper was born July 25, 1945, in Detroit, to Paul Jackson Harper and Eva Gray Norsworthy Harper, both deceased. He worked at Mar-Kel Lighting, formerly of Paris, until he became disabled in 1993. He was a charter member of Victory Fellowship Christian Ministries and served on its deacon board. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Harper and Patricia Harper Davis; and two brothers, Luby and Delbert Harper.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Harper; two daughters, Amy (Jerry Dale) Gilbert of Paris and Hope (Isaac) Williams of Mississippi; one son, Martin (Carrie) Harper of Murray; two brothers, Len Harper of Greenfield and Jimmy Harper of Benton, Kentucky; five sisters, Dixie Raymer and Bobbie Jones, both of Paris, Donna Hodge of Como, Theresa Lowe of McKenzie, and Sherry Key of Medina; and nine grandchildren.

Narvil R. Gaskin
1918-2006
MCKENZIE:
Narvil R. Gaskin, 87, died Tuesday, March 28 at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Services were conducted Thursday, March 30, at Brummitt Funeral Home. Bro. Jim Robert and Bro. John Forgy officiated the service. Burial followed in Christian Chapel Cemetery in Huntingdon.
Mr. Gaskin, a retired employee of Milan Arsenal, was born August 5, 1918, in McKenzie, to the late Elmer and Emma Weatherford Gaskin. He was a member of the McKenzie Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Lois Carnal Gaskin; one brother, Roy Gaskin; and one sister, Jessie Lee Wilkes.
Survivors include one son, Paul (Pam) Gaskin of Jacksonville, Arkansas; a sister, Lee Denning of Paris; three sisters and brother-in-laws, Mildred (Wayne) Townsend, Clara Buttone (Tommy) Williams; and Kathleen Baldwin; two grandchildren, David Gaskin and Jessica Gaskin; one great-grandchild, Christian Gaskin; and seven nieces and nephews.

Mary E. Ross
1922-2006
MCKENZIE:
Mary E. Ross, 84, died Monday, March 27, at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis. Services were held Thursday, March 30, at Brummitt Funeral Home. Bros. Richard Allen, Joe Eaton, and Howell Gossett officiated the services. Burial followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Ross was born March 5, 1922, in Greenfield, to Calvin and Lillie Arnold Webb, both deceased. She was a member of Proctor City Baptist Church in Tiptonville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Ross; two sons, Jerry and Dale Ross; and one granddaughter.
Survivors include five sons, Charles (Janice) Ross, Roy (Kathy) Ross, Darrell (Debra) Ross, Robert (Rita) Ross, all of McKenzie, Tony Ross of Union City; four daughters, Betty (Dennis) Ridley, Deborah (Billy) Wilkes, all of McKenzie; Ann Hill of Union City, and Shelia Bynum of Dresden; one half-brother, James Webb of Springville; one half-sister, Annie Webb of Springville; 29 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Kenneth L. Smith
1933-2006
MCKENZIE:
Kenneth L. Smith, 72, died Saturday, April 1, at his residence. Funeral services were held Monday, April 3, at McKenzie Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Prater and Phillip Halter officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born on September 18, 1933, in Lavinia, to Henry Otha Smith and Lura Olive Vickers. He was a retired railroad employee.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lois Jean Pinson Smith; one daughter, Deborah Smith (Donald) Adams of Waverly; and one son, Timothy Allen Smith of McKenzie.

Tony Edward North
1968-2006
CAMDEN:
Tony Edward North, 37, died Thursday, March 30, at Camden General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 1, at Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jimmy Ellis officiated the service.
Mr. North was born October 8, 1968, in Cook County, Illinois, to the late L.T. Brackins and Carolyn Whitehead.
Survivors include one brother, James W. Brackins of Camden, and a special friend, Mrs. Mary Storey.

Juanita Maynard
1926-2006
MCKENZIE:
Juanita Maynard, 79, died Friday, March 31, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were Tuesday, April 4, in the Cedar Avenue Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. Interment followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Maynard, a factory worker, was born May 2, 1926, in Pikeville, Kentucky, to the late Marion and Vergie Smith Ramey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Maynard, Sr.
Survivors include one son, Fred Maynard Jr. of Green Valley, Arizona; two daughters, Alicia Maynard of McKenzie and Shelby McCague of Green Valley, Arizona; two sisters, Emma Jean Bostic and Ruby Jackson, both of McKenzie; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Ernestine Spain
1927-2006
CEDAR GROVE:
Cornelia Ernestine Spain, 78, died Thursday, March 30 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 1, in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Bro. Don McCurley officiated the service. Interment followed in the Leach Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery.
Miss Spain was born September 8, 1927, in Milan, to the late John Hershel Spain and Jesse (Fry) Spain. She was a homemaker and a member of the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Spain, Sr.
She is survived by five sisters, Madlyn Rosel of Cordova, Gerry Spain and Mary (Paul) Flippin, both of Huntingdon, Jamie Mason and Jan Carpenter, both of Cedar Grove; two brothers, Johnny Spain of Jackson and Tommy Spain of Cedar Grove.

London Bedwell
1917-2006
JACKSON:
London Lucette Bedwell, 89, died Thursday, March 30, at the Northbrooke Health Care Center in Jackson. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 1, in the chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Bro. Dwayne Ervin officiated the service. Interment followed in the Palmer Shelter Cemetery.
Mrs. Bedwell was born January 3, 1917, in Humphreys County, to the late Donnie A. Baker and Carrie Hudson (Roberts) Baker. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Huntingdon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Bedwell; one daughter, Betty Lucille Bedwell; two sisters, Josie Beal and Bell Fesmire; and four brothers, Ray Baker, Don Baker, Denton Baker, and John Baker.
She is survived by one daughter, Pat Bedwell of Jackson; a dear friend and caregiver, Karen Piercey, of Jackson; one sister, Ree Bedwell of Burleson, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

MILDRED LOUISE "MILLIE" JAMES
1937-2006
LEXINGTON:
Mildred Louise "Millie" James, 69, died Saturday, April 1, at Beverly Healthcare in Union City. Funeral services were held Monday, April 3, in the East Room of Dilday Funeral Home with Bro. Wendel Birchett and Bro. Aaron McGranahan officiating. Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. James was born March 9, 1937, in Crockett County. She was retired from business management.
She was preceded in death by her father, Issac Martin Walton; her mother, Otha Faye Gourley James; a son, Jon Marcus Daily; a sister, Sylvia McGranahan; and three brothers, Martin Walton, Jr., Franklin Walton, and Daniel Lee Walton.
Survivors include her husband, Robert James; two daughters, Melissa Harris of McKenzie and Cynthia Ferrell of Sharon; one son, James Daily, Jr. of McKenzie; three sisters, Rebecca Burton of Lexington, Betty Wilkes of Huntingdon, and Joyce Walton of Marion, IL; two brothers, Dave Walton of Kankakee, IL and Lucky Walton of Lexington; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

FRANCES LOUISE CARTER
1918-2006
HUNTINGDON:
Frances Louise Carter, 87, died Sunday, April 2, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Bryan Oakes and Bro. Scott Carter officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Carter was born August 9, 1918, to the late Clarence Jackson and Maggie Belle Tosh Rich. She was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Carter, on October 28, 1985; her son, Gerald David "Buddy" Carter, Jr. on July 7, 2001; two sisters, Ruth Johnson and Johnnie Beal; and four brothers, Ray Rich, Raymond Rich, Billy Rich and C.J. Rich.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice Chandler of Camden; two sons, Ronnie (Faye) Carter of Huntingdon and Dwight (Diane) Carter of Camden; two sisters, Faye Chandler of Adamsville and Peggy Pruitt of Huntingdon; five brothers, Coy Rich of McKenzie, Paul Travis Rich, Gaylon Rich, Garlon Rich and Don Rich; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
