Van Mathis
1922-2006
BRUCETON: Van Mathis, 83, died Sunday, February 12 at
Baptist Memorial Hospital. Graveside funeral services
were conducted Tuesday, February 14, at Prospect
Cemetery with Brother Roger Patton officiating. Dilday
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Mathis was born October 15, 1922, in Bruceton. He
was a retired employee of the L&N Railroad.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Velma Glisson Mathis,
and several nieces and nephews.
Virginia "Jinks" Hollowell
1932-2006
WESTPORT: Virginia "Jinks" Hollowell, 73, died Friday,
February 10, at her home.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 12, at
Dilday Funeral Home East Room with Brother Johnny Boyd
officiating. Interment followed in the Jamison Cemetery.
Ms. Hollowell was born June 17, 1932, in Westport, to
the late Uly and Mannie Pritchard Hollowell. She was a
homemaker and a member of Westport Baptist Church.
She is survived by a sister, Brooksie Therrell of
Westport; a niece; three great-nephews; and three
great-great-nephews.Pat Cole

MCKENZIE: Patricia (Pat) Ann McGlockin Cole, age 62,
died Thursday, February 9 at Jackson-Madison County
General Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday,
February 11, at McKenzie Funeral Home, with Brother
Dennis Trull officiating. Interment was at Carroll
Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Cole was born October 22, 1943, in Franklin, to C.
E. (Flip) and Francis Youree McGlockin, both deceased.
She worked as sports editor for The McKenzie Banner for
18 years. She was the valedictorian of her high school
class in Florida and returned to McKenzie where she
obtained her degree from Bethel College. She was a
certified schoolteacher and taught briefly at
McLemoresville before the West Carroll consolidation and
substituted many years in the McKenzie school system.
She managed and worked in the McKenzie Recreation Park
concession stand during numerous summers. She also
volunteered many years in the concession stand for the
McKenzie High School Band.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Samuel
Cole, and a brother, Tom McGlockin.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Cole, and a son,
John Ed Cole, both of McKenzie.

1950-2006
HUNTINGDON: Sherman Aaron Wright, 55, died Thursday,
February 9 at his home.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 12, in
the chapel of Chase Funeral Home with Brother James
Daniels officiating. Interment followed in Carroll
Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Wright was born June 22, 1950, in Mississippi, to
the late Eugene and Vera Ruth (McCormick) Wright. He was
a retired conductor for CSX Railroad, a Vietnam Army
veteran, a member of the Masonic Lodge #106 in
Huntingdon, Scottish rite degree, and was a member of
the Eva Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Brenda Wright;
one daughter, Brandy Floyd of Huntingdon; one son, Shane
Wright of Huntingdon; four brothers, Billy Wright of
Holladay, Shelby Wright of Branson, Missouri, Jimmy
Wright of Huntingdon, and Jerry Wright of Chickasha,
Oklahoma; and five grandchildren.
Elva Elizabeth O'Neill
1919-2006
MCLEMORESVILLE: Elva Elizabeth O'Neill, 86, died
Wednesday, February 8, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted Saturday,
February 11, at McLemoresville First United Methodist
Church with Brother Tommie Martin and Brother Billy
Morphis officiated the service.. Interment followed in
the McLemoresville Cemetery. Chase Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
Mrs. O'Neill was born September 8, 1919, in
McLemoresville, to the late Lonnie and Ethel (Coleman)
Traywick. She was a homemaker and a member of the First
United Methodist Church in McLemoresville.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Archie
Traywick, Glen Traywick, Robert Traywick; two sisters,
Mary Ruth Devault, Nita Mai Girard, and four
half-sisters, Ethel King, Edna Dowdy, Ena Jones, and
Blanche Hill.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William Earl
O'Neill; two daughters, Sallye (George) Aylor and
Suzanne Conley, all of McLemoresville; one sister, Ann
Beckman of Davenport, Iowa; three grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
The family requests donations be made to the
McLemoresville Cemetery Fund.
Mary Christine Hessler
1920-2006
MCKENZIE: Mary Christine Hessler, 85, died Wednesday,
February 8, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral
services were held Friday, February 10, in the Cedar
Avenue Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with Brother Bob
Conley officiating. Interment followed Tuesday, February
14, at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis.
Mrs. Hessler was born April 25, 1920, in Crittenden
County, Arkansas, to the late Annie Mitchell. She was a
factory worker.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Hessler.
Elmer Ray Looney
1920-2006
DIMONDALE, MICHIGAN: Elmer Ray Looney, 85, died Tuesday,
February 7. Funeral services were held Friday, February
10, at Lake Lansing Baptist Church in East Lansing,
Michigan, with Pastor Robert Grimwood officiating.
Estes-Leadley Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. Looney was born September 20, 1920, in McKenzie, to
the late John Clinton and Ella Williams Looney. He
served in the Civilian Conversation Corps from October
1936 until September 1938 and was an Army veteran of
World War II. He retired from the Lansing State Journal
in 1985.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and
Albert Roe Looney; six sisters, Cecil Woodard, Mae
Golden, Laverne "Pete" Cullimore, and Dorothy, Virginia,
and Marcella Looney.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Maude "Betty"
Looney; one son, Ken (JoAnn) Looney, one daughter, Karen
(Bob) Borton; five grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Looney; two
sisters, Francis Hilliard and Lottie (Lloyd) Tucker; and
several nieces and nephews.
Archie H. Scott
1913-2006
PARIS: Archie H. Scott, 92, died Tuesday, February 7, at
Henry County Medical Center. Funeral services were
conducted Thursday, February 9, in the LeDon Chapel of
Ridgeway Funeral Home with Fred Shackleford, Jimmy
Huffman, Jerry Massey and Lynn Paschall officiating.
Burial followed in Palestine Cemetery.
Mr. Scott was born October 26, 1913, in Paris, to Dave
and Grace Graham Scott, both deceased. He was the oldest
member of Springhill Baptist Church, joining August 9,
1930. He was a former student of VanDyke and Henry
schools, retired from Henry County Monument Co., and was
a farmer.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Earlene Cole
and Merle Dunlap, and three brothers, Hollis Scott,
Charlie Scott, and Douglas "Jack" Scott.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Steele
Scott; one daughter, Anne (Reed) Brewer; three sisters,
Gladys Bell, Helen Crews, and Evelyn VanCleave, all of
Paris; and one grandchild, David (Tracy) Brewer of
Paris.
Brent Isaac McMackin
1958-2006
BRUCETON: Brent Isaac McMackin, 47, died Monday,
February 6, at his home. Funeral services were conducted
Thursday, February 9, at Barren Springs Cumberland
Presbyterian Church with Brother Larry Hollingsworth and
Brother Jerry Hollingsworth officiated the service.
Interment followed in the church cemetery. Chase Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McMackin was born December 7, 1958, in Carroll
County. He was a maintenance worker for Emerson Electric
Company and a member of the Barren Springs Cumberland
Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his
father, Isaac Junior McMackin, who died June 1, 2005.
He is survived by his mother, Joyce (Crutchfield)
McMackin of Bruceton; one sister, Shirley Kimberly of
Kansasville, Wisconsin; two brothers, Kenny Smothers of
Hollow Rock and David McMackin of Zion, Illinois; a
special niece, Haley Jackson; and several other nieces
and nephews. He also had two special people in his life,
Roy Richardson and Luanne Gately.
James Edgar Lindsey
1928-2006
SPRINGVILLE: James Edgar Lindsey, 77, died Sunday,
February 5, at Henry County Medical Center. Funeral
services were held Saturday, February 11, at Gallimore
Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Claude Smithmier,
Fred Morris, and James Gilbert officiating. The body was
cremated.
Mr. Lindsey was born November 14, 1928, in Gleason, to
the late Wilburn Lee and Jessie Lavergne Parks Lindsey.
He was a retired business manager and consultant for
Proctor & Gamble Kimberly Clark, and was a former
trustee of Bethel College. He was also a member of
Gleason First United Methodist Church, and a World War
II veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie Dean Bennett Lindsey;
one son, Lawrence Lindsey of Pennington, New Jersey; one
daughter, Leesa Lindsey Roberts of Littleton, Colorado;
and two grandchildren.
Bobby G. Brown
1940-2006
HUNTINGDON: Bobby G. Brown, 65, died Saturday, February
4, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon with
Brother Bryan Oakes officiating. Funeral services were
conducted Wednesday, February 8, at Dilday Funeral Home
East Room.
Mr. Brown was born March 2, 1940, in Smyrna. He was
self-employed and a member of the Hilldale Church of
Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gray Brown.
He is survived by his mother, Beatrice Roberts of
Huntingdon; a daughter, Cynthia Conti of South
Plainfield, New Jersey; a son, Robert Brown of South
Amboy, New Jersey; three sisters, Sue Moody of
Huntingdon; Pat Azlin of New Albany, Mississippi; and
Janice Porter of Union City; two brothers, David Brown
and John Brown, both of Tupelo, Mississippi; and two
grandchildren. |
