Gordon M. McArthur
1929-2006
HUNTINGDON: Gordon M. McArthur, 76, died Sunday,
January 29, at NHC Healthcare in Milan. Funeral services
were conducted Tuesday, January 31, in the chapel of
Chase Funeral Home with Brother Jerry Morris
officiating. Interment followed in the Massey Liles
Cemetery.
Mrs. McArthur was born August 20, 1929, in Carroll
County, to the late Ernest B. and Ruth R. Brown. She was
a retired certified nursing assistant for the Carroll
County General Hospital and was a member of the
Huntingdon Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alene Miller
and Marie Hodges; and three brothers, Talbert Brown,
Charles Brown, and Ernest D. Brown.
She is survived by one daughter, Melissa Robinson of
Huntingdon; two sons, Alan Gooch of Huntingdon; and
Richard H. Gooch of Charlottesville, Virginia; three
sisters, Faye Holland of Eva, Raydeane Wainscott of
McKenzie, and Rebecca Hawkins of Hebron, Indiana; eight
grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Charles David Lessenberry
1960-2006
HUNTINGDON: Charles David Lessenberry, 45, died
Sunday, January 29, at his home.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 31, in
the chapel of Chase Funeral Home with Bros. Johnny Boyd
and Tim Coleman officiating. Interment followed in the
Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Lessenberry was born February 22, 1960, in
Huntingdon. He worked for the Carroll County Highway
Department as a heavy equipment operator and was a
member of the County Line Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his father, John (Julia) Lessenberry
and his mother, Joan Swafford, both of Huntingdon; one
sister, Linda Carol DePriest of Clarksburg; one step
sister, Tonya Swafford of Huntingdon; three brothers,
Lyn Lessenberry of Beech Bluff, Jeff Lessenberry of
Lexington, and Jonathan Lessenberry of McKenzie; and
three step-brothers: Phillip Hicks, Robert Hicks, and
Billy Swafford, Jr., all of Huntingdon.
Ethel E. Russell
1931-2006
SPRINGVILLE: Ethel E. Russell, 74, died Sunday,
January 29, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services were Tuesday, January 31, at Brummitt
Funeral Home, with Bro. Corey Meggs officiating.
Interment followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Russell was born August 3, 1931, in Jackson, to
James Dalton Owens Sr. and Willie Marie Hall Owens, both
deceased. She was a member of Jones Chapel Baptist
Church in Paris.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, her twin at
birth and Christine Patterson of Riverdale, Illinois.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Walter
Verdell Russell of Springville; one son, Larry Russell
of Springville; one daughter, Diane (Bob) McDowell of
Springville; two sisters, Rubie LaPointe and Ann Cupples,
both of Jackson; four grandchildren: Dean (Carrie)
Russell of Friendship; Denise (Thames) Jackson of
Nashville; Shanna Russom of Enville, and Chad (Angie)
Black of Paris; four great-grandchildren, Brittney
Russell of Camden, Nolan Russell and Lee Russell of
Friendship, and Connor Jackson.
Pallbearers were Chad Black, Nolan Russell, Thames
Jackson, Jim Owens, Jr., Joe Anderson, and Billy Taylor.
Jesse Lee Lewis
1911-2006
MEMPHIS: Jesse Lee Lewis, 94, formerly of
Huntingdon, died Friday, January 27 at the St. Francis
Hospital in Memphis. Funeral services were conducted
Sunday, January 29, in the chapel of Dilday Funeral Home
with Brother Dan Winkler officiating. Interment followed
in Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Lewis was born September 7, 1911, in Dyer, to the
late John James and Lossie Berry Horner Lewis. He was a
retired guard for Firestone, with 34 1/2 years of
service.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Radie Lewis; two
daughters, Joyce Williams and Pat Percoski, and one son,
Jesse "Buck" Lewis, all of Memphis; one sister, Julia
Davis of Selmer; five grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth Ann Dotson
1963-2006
GLEASON: Elizabeth Ann Dotson, 43, died Friday,
January 27, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
Funeral services were Monday, January 30, at Gallimore
Funeral Home with the Rev. G.W. Moon officiating. Burial
followed in Hopewell Cemetery in Gleason.
Mrs. Dotson was born January 18, 1963, in Chicago, to
the late George Strecker and Dianne Sonnenbert, who
survives. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Aubrey Guy Dotson; two
sons, Sean Martin of South Fulton and Tony Dotson of
Atwood; one daughter, Jessica Dotson of Atwood; and two
grandchildren.
Wardell Williams
1950-2006
MCKENZIE: Wardell "Uncle Will" Williams, 55, died
Sunday, January 29, at the Henry County Nursing Home.
Services were incomplete at press time with Trinity
Funeral Home of Paris in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Williams was born December 12, 1950, in Drew,
Mississippi, to the late Eddie Lee Williams and Johnny
Mae Murry. He was a factory worker before he became
disabled.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Edna L.
Stubblefield Williams; two sons, James Wardell Williams
of Paris, Joshua Lee Williams of Tiptonville; two
step-daughters, Melissa (Juan) Johnson and Michelle
(Bobby) Ballard both of Kansas City, Missouri; ten
grandchildren; seven brothers; seven sisters; a special
friend, Vanessa Payne; a special caregiver, Rachel Cook
of Oakland; Rachel and Don McDaniel of McKenzie, with
whom he resided until his death; and a host of cousins,
nieces, and nephews.
Lera Hampton
1914-2006
MCKENZIE: Lera Hampton, 91, died Thursday, January
26, at Oak Manor Health Care Center in McKenzie. Funeral
services were held Sunday, January 29 at Brummitt
Funeral Home. Burial followed in Everetts Chapel
Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. Hampton was born February 25, 1914 in Westport to
Hulon and Eva Gooch Eubanks, both deceased. She was a
factory worker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert
Hampton.
She is survived by four daughters, Judy Reed of Kenton,
Juanita Knake of Jackson, Nellie Spencer of McKenzie,
and Margie Murphy of Jackson; two sons, Helon Eubanks of
McKenzie and Loy Eubanks of Florida; four sisters,
Lillian Beeryman of Kenton, Ruth Wallace of Maryland,
Dorothy Clark of McKenzie, and Berlene Woods of Winter
Haven, Florida; seven grandchildren; 24
great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Joseph "Sonny" Carver McCollum
1943-2006
ATWOOD: Joseph "Sonny" Carver McCollum, 62, died
Wednesday, January 25, at his residence. Funeral
services were held Saturday, January 28 at Mt. Olive
Baptist Church. Interment followed at Mt. Olive
Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. McCollum was born June 2, 1943, in Atwood, to Willie
D. McCollum and Otha Clark McCollum, both deceased. He
was retired from Milan Army Ammunition Plant and a
member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sonya; one
son, Gary; and two sisters, Delores and Cora.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn McCollum; eight
children: Carlos (Leterica), Ireina, Maleka, Marshall,
Kenneth, Bobby, Bernard, and Rodney; five grandchildren;
six sisters, Cornelia (Robert), Anna, Gwendolyn, Marva,
Agatha, and Lucy (Wayne); three brothers, Charles, Eddie
(Sadie), and Lindon (Donna); and a host of nieces,
nephews, and other relatives and friends
William Thomas Harper
1938-2006
CHARLOTTE, MI: William Thomas Harper, 67, died
Tuesday, January 24, at Eaton County Medical Center
Facility in Charlotte, Michigan. Funeral Services were
conducted Monday, January 30 in the LeDon Chapel of
Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris with Bro. Clayton Owen
officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Cemetery in
Paris.
Mr. Harper was born August 10, 1938, to the late George
Harper Sr. and Effie Jane Clark Harper. He was an Army
veteran, a former auto mechanic, and Chicago Cubs fan
who loved motorcycles and westerns and enjoyed bowling.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Annette Lee
Harper, who died in 1963; four brothers, James, Billy,
Raymond, and Paul Harper.
Survivors include one daughter, Windy (Phil) Zamora of
Charlotte, Michigan; one son, Lindsey (Anita) Harper of
Lansing, Michigan; two brothers, George (Dorothy) Harper
of McKenzie, and LC (Dorothy) Harper of Henry; three
sisters, Elouise Ellis of Gleason, Fay (Larry) Taylor of
Greenfield, and Shirley (Bob) Morris of Greenfield; one
sister-in-law Sarah Harper of McKenzie, special friend,
Marie Jones of Paris and four grandchildren.
Lois Fuller Baumgardner
1924-2006
HUNTINGDON: Lois Fuller Baumgardner, 81, died
Tuesday, January 24, at her home.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 26, at
the Huntingdon Church of Christ with Brother Dan Winkler
officiating. Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial
Gardens. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Baumgardner was born September 17, 1924, in Carroll
County, to the late Charlie and Eddie Montgomery
Pendergrass. She was a retired employee of Publix Shirt
Corp. and a member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthus
Carlos Fuller and three brothers, Henry Pendergrass,
James Pendergrass, and Larry Wayne Pendergrass.
She is survived by her husband, Willie H. (Bill)
Baumgardner; two sons, Jimmy (Brenda) Fuller and Jeff
(Wanda) Fuller; and a daughter, Patsy (Frank) Myers, all
of Huntingdon; a brother, L.R. Pendergrass of
Huntingdon; two sisters, Flossie Meals and Ollita Kelly,
both of Cedar Grove; nine grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
Eugene Pierce Douglas
1940-2006
MURRAY, KENTUCKY: Eugene Pierce Douglas, 65,
formerly of Lexington, died recently at his home.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 27, at Mt.
Gilead Baptist Church with Brother Don Copper
officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill
Cemetery in Lexington. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements.
Mr. Douglas was born December 1, 1940, in Spring City.
He was a retired LPN night supervisor for Huntingdon
Health and Rehabilitation.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Huntsman
Douglas.
He is survived by his mother, Virginia Pierce Douglas; a
sister, Julia (Harry L.) Davis of Eatonton, Georgia; and
several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Edna Parks Sinclair
FLORIDA: Edna Parks Sinclair, 89, died Sunday,
January 1. A memorial service was held Saturday, January
7, at Key Biscayne Community Church.
Mrs. Sinclair was the daughter of the late Obe and Agnes
Collins Parks and was born and reared in Gleason, where
her teaching career began following graduation from
Bethel College.
She was a longtime resident of Key Biscayne, Florida,
one of the first teachers at Key Biscayne Elementary
School, and a charter member of Key Biscayne Community
Church.
She is survived by daughters Mary Gail S. PY (Arthur,
Jr.) and Carol S. Robles (Joseph Jr.); five
grandchildren; and three nephews: Charles and Lewis
Parks of Largo and Naples, Florida, and James Lindsey of
Springville, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, family requested donations be made
