A University of Tennessee-Knoxville
student and former Huntingdon High School
honor student and athlete died Saturday
morning in a single-vehicle crash in
Knoxville.
Adam Coleman Carter, 21, son of Jeff and Amy
(Rich) Carter of Huntingdon, was killed near
the intersection of Montlake Drive and
Montglen Lane, off Alcoa Highway, according
to News Sentinel in Knoxville. Carter was
dead on the scene, according to the Knox
County Sheriff’s Office. His passenger, Dane
Anderson, 21, was injured.
Anderson also is a student at UT and
Carter’s roommate. He was treated and
released from the University of Tennessee
Medical Center.
Deputies put the time of crash at 2:31 a.m.
Saturday. A Knox County Sheriff’s Department
spokesperson said that when Carter’s SUV
left the road, he overcorrected, got back on
the road, ran off the road again, and hit a
tree.
The students were within one mile of their
residence.
Adam was a senior at UT-Knoxville, where he
was majoring in business/finance. He was a
2004 graduate of Huntingdon High School,
where he played football and baseball. He
and his teammates won the state football
championship in 2003.
Jeff and Amy Carter own Jeff’s Lawnmower in
Huntingdon and Amy is employed at Carroll
Bank and Trust, where she is vice-president.
He is also survived by one brother, Isaac
Carter of Jacksonville Beach, Florida and
his paternal grandparents, Lewis and
Willodean Coleman Carter of Huntingdon. He
was preceded in death by his maternal
grandparents, Coy and Louise Rich of
McKenzie.
