The 2007 McKenzie High School Marching Rebels

MURFREESBORO (November 3) - The McKenzie High School Marching Rebel Band earned ninth in state competition held Saturday, November 3 at Riverdale High School. The Marching Rebels competed in a field of 27 bands in the Division I (small band) competition for the state. McKenzie marched at 11:30 a.m. in preliminarily competition at Warrior Stadium. Only 10 bands advanced tothe final competition that evening. Band members, parents, and supporters waited anxiously as McKenzie’s name was announced to advance to the finals that evening. Fortunately, McKenzie was the second band announced, creating great excitement for the Marching Rebels.

The award-winning band performed “Happy Days Are Here Again”, ”Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree with Anyone Else But Me”, “Big Noise” from Winatka, and “As Time Goes By”.

  Field Commander Aaron Hoskins

MHS marched in final competition at 8:00 p.m. The preliminary and final awards were anticipated after watching the top ten bands complete their field show performances.

Keith Breeden, band director, addressed students and parents following the extremely long day of travel and performances. He expressed his appreciation for the hard work of the band participants and was well please with parent participation. He stated “this is one of the largest groups of parents, friends, and other supporters to follow the band to state competition.” Division I is the final competition for the 2007 school year. The MHS Band is preparing to represent the city of McKenzie in the DisneyWorld Parade in March 2008.
