MHS Band Places Ninth in State Competition |

The 2007 McKenzie High
School Marching Rebels
MURFREESBORO (November 3) - The McKenzie
High School Marching Rebel Band earned ninth
in state competition held Saturday, November
3 at Riverdale High School. The Marching
Rebels competed in a field of 27 bands in
the Division I (small band) competition for
the state. McKenzie marched at 11:30 a.m. in
preliminarily competition at Warrior
Stadium. Only 10 bands advanced tothe final
competition that evening. Band members,
parents, and supporters waited anxiously as
McKenzie’s name was announced to advance to
the finals that evening. Fortunately,
McKenzie was the second band announced,
creating great excitement for the Marching
Rebels.
The award-winning band performed “Happy Days
Are Here Again”, ”Don’t Sit Under the Apple
Tree with Anyone Else But Me”, “Big Noise”
from Winatka, and “As Time Goes By”.

MHS marched in final competition at 8:00
p.m. The preliminary and final awards were
anticipated after watching the top ten bands
complete their field show performances.
Keith Breeden, band director, addressed
students and parents following the extremely
long day of travel and performances. He
expressed his appreciation for the hard work
of the band participants and was well please
with parent participation. He stated “this
is one of the largest groups of parents,
friends, and other supporters to follow the
band to state competition.” Division I is
the final competition for the 2007 school
year. The MHS Band is preparing to represent
the city of McKenzie in the DisneyWorld
Parade in March 2008.
Hometown Christmas Beauty Revues to be
held November 10
McKenzie High School Band Boosters will hold
the inaugural Miss Hometown Christmas and
Little Mr. and Miss Hometown Christmas
pageants on November 10, 2007, at Bethel
College’s Dickey Fine Arts Building. The
Little Mr. and Miss Hometown Christmas
pageant will begin at 6:00p.m. The queen,
king, first maid, and first paige must be
six years of age before May 2 and all
participants must be enrolled in McKenzie
Elementary school or home schooled in
McKenzie. The Miss McKenzie Pageant will
begin at 8:00 p.m. The queen and first maid
must be 16 years of age before May 2. All
Miss McKenzie participants must be enrolled
in McKenzie High School or home schooled in
McKenzie. All pageants winners will be
eligible to represent their titles in the
Hometown Christmas parade. Each royalty may
participate in the Fish Fry and Strawberry
events. The registration deadline is
Thursday, November 8. There will be no
registration forms accepted after the
deadline. If additional information is
needed, you may contact Lisa Norris at

pageant is open to the public and admission
is $5.00. Children under 5 will be admitted
free with a paying adult. |
