MCKENZIE, TN – Bethel College’s physician
assistant program has received word that it
has been accredited by the Accreditation
Review Commission on Education for the
Physician Assistant, Inc., (ARC-PA), to
accept 90 students in its newly revamped
master’s degree in physician assistant
studies program.
According to Bethel President Bob
Prosser, this represents an opportunity for
Bethel to increase the number of students in
the program.
“Bethel College is pleased to receive
this affirmation of its ability to prepare
physician assistants who are of the highest
quality,” said Prosser. “We celebrate this
recognition of the strength of Bethel’s PA
program.”
Dr. Thomas Brown, director of Bethel’s PA
program commented, “Bethel feels proud that
the high quality of the program is
demonstrated by the accreditation, just as
it was exhibited by a 100 percent pass rate
among May 2007 PA graduates. In fact, Bethel
PA graduate scores on board exams were in
the top one-third in the nation among
schools preparing physician assistants.”
ARC-PA is an independent accrediting body
authorized to accredit qualified PA
educational programs leading to the
professional credential, Physician Assistant
(PA). Accreditation is a process of quality
assurance that determines whether programs
meet established standards for function,
structure, and performance.
The Bethel College Physician Assistant
Program will confer a master of science
degree in physician assistant studies upon
completion of the 27-month educational
program which consists of 12 months of
didactic education and 15 months of clinical
medicine experience.
Bethel’s PA program operates from the former
Cumberland Presbyterian Church at the
intersection of Stonewall and Church streets
in McKenzie. |
