Search Continues for Missing Minister

By Shannon McFarlin and Joel Washburn

Leach, Tenn.-The search continued Monday for Dr. Mickey Carpenter of Paris, whose boat capsized in a private lake in Leach, which is six miles south of Huntingdon in Carroll County.

Carroll County authorities started the search for Dr. Carpenter at 4:30 p.m. Friday, continuing until 10 p.m. With no success, the search resumed at 7 a.m. Saturday and continued until 9 p.m. that night. The search again continued 7 a.m. Sunday and lasted all day.

Kathy Clark of the Carroll County Rescue Squad said that squads from Carroll, Benton and Henderson Counties were combing the lake with six boats. Three divers are helping with the search, she said.

Two of the boats are equipped with sidescan equipment for underwater searches.

Carroll County Sheriff Bendell Bartholomew said Dr. Carpenter's boat was found capsized 15 feet from the edge of the water. His Chevy pickup truck was found beside the lake, he said.

Dr. Carpenter is the Paris District Superintendent for the First United Methodist Church. His lives in Paris with his wife, Marsha, and twin daughters, Michelle and Megan.

He was a former minister at Huntingdon First United Methodist Church.
