Early Voting Increases in Final Days, But Remained Light in Carroll County

By Linda Bolton

Early voting increased somewhat at Carroll County Election Commission during final days before the January 31 deadline, said Linda Radford, Carroll County Administrator of Election. However, she still believes the relatively light turnout is an indicator that today’s turnout will also be light.

Radford noted that 1333 participated in early voting in Carroll County. Of that number, 1248 voted in person at the election commission office, five cast military votes, and 80 were absentee ballots by mail.

Since the 1980s, the election commission has provided a service to allow residents of nursing homes to participate in early voting. This year, representatives from the election commission traveled to Oak Manor Nursing Home and McKenzie Health Care Center in McKenzie and Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center and Life Care Center in Huntingdon, where 45 residents participated in early voting. That number is included in the 1248 early voters who voted in person, she explained.

The highest voter turnout for early voting was Wednesday, January 30, when 207 persons showed up to cast their ballots. Other tallies included 135 on Monday, January 28; 106 on Tuesday, January 29; and 169 on Thursday, January 31.

Carroll County has 18,900 registered voters.
