Hearing Set for Man Suspected in Death of Father

A preliminary hearing for murder suspect Thomas Randal Pruitt has been continued until July 30, according to Weakley County Circuit Court Deputy Clerk Dawn Richards.

Pruitt, 30, is charged with second degree murder in the May 15 shooting death of his father, James Thomas “Doodle” Pruitt, 61, at their home on East Grove Road, between Gleason and McKenzie.

Pruitt, who remains incarcerated, did not appear in court last week. The shooting occurred when James Thomas Pruitt attempted to intervene in a domestic dispute between Thomas R. Pruitt and his mother, according to Randall McGowan, investigator with the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department.
