New Sidewalks in Store for Stonewall, Magnolia

MCKENZIE – Construction began this week on new sidewalks along Stonewall and Magnolia.

According to Charlie Beal, city clerk, old sidewalks will be removed and replaced with new concrete sidewalks on Stonewall Street, from City Hall to Magnolia Avenue, and along Magnolia West from Stonewall to Elm Street. Beal said sidewalks along both sides of the street will be replaced.

The $103,575 project is 80 percent funded by the Tennessee Department of Transportation. McKenzie must provide the remaining 20 percent. A portion of the city’s share will be in-kind work, such as removing and disposing of the old sidewalk.

Martin Paving Company was the successful bidder for the project. Construction should require two to three weeks.
