Construction Begins on 15th Habitat House

Workers lay the floor joists on Saturday morning.

HUNTINGDON (May 31) A hardy team of volunteer workers reported for duty Saturday to begin construction on the 15th Habitat for Humanity home in Carroll County. Some 34 workers, with tools in hand, were ready to labor as the work officially began at 8:00 a.m.

Buster Barger, building chairman, was pleased with the turnout and the progress. He said the team of workers came to work and by 4:00 p.m. the volunteers had the walls and the roof trusses erected.

Located on Paris Avenue in the former Cox Funeral Home location, the 1,100 square-foot, 3-bedroom home will belong to the Hayes family - Michael, Misty, Jessica, and Michael, Jr., currently residents of McKenzie. The home is fully handicap accessible with wide doors and exterior ramps to accommodate both Michael, who is disabled, and Michael, Jr., who has cerebral palsy. The family plans to move into their new home in August.

Each Saturday is a work day. Volunteer workers are needed each and every Saturday beginning at 8:00 a.m. Volunteers are welcome anytime during the day. For more information about Carroll County Habitat for Humanity, phone 731-986-5900.
