SIFE Places Eighth in National
Anti-Piracy Video
(McKenzie, TN) 5/29/2008 The Bethel College
SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) team
returned to McKenzie as winners after
participating in the SIFE USA National
Exposition held May 13-15, 2008 in Chicago,
Illinois. The event drew more than 140
competing teams with more than 3,000
students presenting their work to more than
650 business executives serving as judges.
The Bethel College SIFE team received third
in the Nation Honors in the Annual SIFE/MPAA(Motion
Picture of America Association) Anti-Piracy
Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest.
The competition had more than 50 SIFE teams
participating and submitting creative and
well-produced spots, all of which represent
an impressive amount of hard work and
creativity. The PSA is posted on the MPAAs
Web site at www.mpaa.org.
Bethels PSA aired on local Charter channels
prior to the national competition.
Continuing in their success, the team
advanced to compete with the top 20 teams in
the nation and earned a place in the top
eight. Also, team member Allan Matoushaya
was awarded a $5,000 service leadership
scholarship for the 2008-09 academic year.
Perhaps the most rewarding event at national
competition for Bethel SIFE was President
Robert Prosser receiving the Most Supportive
College/ University President of the Year
Award. With his dedication and support, SIFE
at Bethel opened and operates its own pizza
place on campus. Now in its fifth year of
operation, Jacks Place serves as a learning
tool for students and as the main source of
income that keeps Bethel SIFE self
sustaining.
It is definitely an honor to be a part of
such a successful team and in the future I
hope to continue the legacy established by
my predecessors and lead the team toward
another successful year, expressed Sandy
Nasif, Bethel SIFE president.
SIFE is an international non-profit
organization active on more than 1,400
university campuses in 47 countries. SIFE
teams create economic opportunities in their
communities by organizing outreach projects
that focuses on market economics,
entrepreneurship, personal financial success
skills, and business ethics.
During this academic year, the Bethel
College SIFE team organized over ten
projects in the McKenzie community,
including Stamp Out Hunger in which the team
raised $2000 and $2000 to benefit McKenzie
United Neighbors. Additionally, the event
raised hunger awareness in the entire west
Tennessee region. The team also guided
students attending Carroll Academy in
learning how to become entrepreneurs and
start their own T-shirt screen printing
business. |
