Funeral
services are Thursday, March 13, at 10 a.m.
for Charles Ramey, a McKenzie city
councilman serving his first term in the
elective office. Ramey died Tuesday, March
11, at at Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital. He had suffered medical
problems and underwent surgery recently.
Bro. Kenny Carr and Bro. Claude Prince will
officiate the service at McKenzie Funeral
Home with burial to follow at Fairview
Cemetery in Dyersburg.
The family will receive friends Wednesday
from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9
a.m. until time of service.
Mr. Ramey was elected to the four-year term
as councilman in November 2006 with a vote
count of 70. He was a retired United States
Postal Service associate and had stints with
the Tennessee Department of Transportation
and as co-owner of an inventory service
business. He was a U.S. Army Korean War
veteran and a member of Long Heights Baptist
Church and VFW Post 4939 in McKenzie.
Mr. Ramey was born July 3, 1933, in
Missouri, to the late Robert and Myrtle
Belch Gott Ramey. He was preceded in death by one
brother, George Ramey, and two sisters,
Joyce Gott and Dorothy Adams.Survivors include his wife, Nancy Emerson
Ramey, of McKenzie; one daughter, Donna
(Sonny) Sellers-Baskin of McKenzie; one son,
Charles (Chuck) Robert Ramey Jr. of
McKenzie; five sisters: Bea Staten, Ruth
McDonald, and Nita Coco, all of Missouri,
Mary Jane Ramsey of New Mexico, and Phyllis
Smith of Arizona; one brother, Earl Gott of
Missouri; five grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
