April 3 is the qualifying deadline for
August 7 elections, which include the state
primary for U.S. Senate, U.S. Congressman,
and Tennessee House of Representatives and
the Carroll County General Election, which
includes election of special school district
board members and county school board
members, according to Linda Radford,
administrator of elections.
The August election includes the primary for
U.S. Senate, currently held by Lamar
Alexander, which is a six-year term of
office; U.S. Congressman, currently held by
John Tanner, which is a two-year term; and
Tennessee House of Representatives,
currently held by Mark Maddox in the 76th
District and Chris Crider in the 79th
District. Each of those terms is for two
years.
In the County General Election, three county
school board members will be elected one
each from school districts one, two and
three. Each is a four-year term.
In the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Special School
District Board of Education election, one
member each will be elected from the town of
Bruceton, town of Hollow Rock, Vale District
and Spanish Grove District. Each is
four-year terms.
Huntingdon Special School District will
elect two members at large for six year
terms of office.
McKenzie Special School District will elect
three members at large for four year terms.
In the South Carroll County Special School
District Board of Education election, one
member each will be elected from the Yuma
District, the Concord District, and the
Westport District. Each will be four year
terms.
In the West Carroll Special School District
Board of Education election, one member each
will be elected from the Old County
District, Old Trezevant District and Old
Atwood District.
We have several school board members that
have picked up petitions for the school
board positions, said Radford.
Two persons from Gibson County have
qualified in the 79th District race in the
Republican Primary, said Radford. They
include Mark Renfroe of Bradford and Curtis
Halford of Dyer. No one has yet qualified in
the Democratic Primary.
Chris Crider of Milan is vacating his state
representative seat in the 79th District
later this year. Crider was elected as mayor
of Milan last November and is currently
holding both elected positions.
To qualify to run in any of these positions,
a person must file a qualifying petition no
later than noon, April 3. The petition must
contain the names of 25 registered voters,
who are eligible to vote for that office. |
