Accident Claims Life of Assistant District Attorney; Huntingdon Man Injured

A tragic two-vehicle accident on Highway 70 near Huntingdon Friday morning claimed the life of Stephen (Steve) Douglas Jackson, 60, of Jackson, according to Mike Browning, Public Information Officer with the Tennessee Highway Patrol in Nashville.

Jackson served as assistant district attorney for District Attorney General Hansel McCadams, who maintained an office in Huntingdon and served Carroll, Henry, Benton, Decatur and Hardin counties in the 24th Judicial District. He also worked as assistant D.A. for several years under District Attorney General Gus Radford, prior to Radford’s 2006 retirement.

Jackson was traveling east on Highway 70 (near the intersection of Holder Road) in a 1995 Toyota Corolla and Marcus Ray Beal, 21 of Huntingdon was traveling west in a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, when the accident occurred at 8:23 a.m. According to preliminary investigation, Beal lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line and struck Jackson’s vehicle head-on. Both vehicles veered off the east side of the roadway and overturned.

Beal was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon and Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene, Browning said.

The THP’s Critical Incidence Response Team was at the wreck scene throughout the day Friday investigating the accident.
