TEDDY RAY FRANCISCO
1954-2008
SPRINGVILLE: Teddy Ray Francisco, 53, died
Tuesday, March 11, at his home. A graveside
memorial service was Thursday, March 13, at
4 p.m. at Memorial Cemetery with Bro.
Willard Alls and Bro. Charles Cate
officiating.
Mr. Francisco was born April 2, 1954 to the
late Crockett Francisco and Delores Bourne
Francisco. He was a truck driver and member
of Springville Church of Christ.
Survivors include: his wife, Gay Riley
Francisco; two daughters, Jenna (Bubba)
Foutch of Paris and Laura Francisco of
Springville; two goddaughters, Cathy Bertrum
of Collierville and Pammy Gloystein of
DuPont, Washington; one godson, Staff Sgt.
Roy Baricuatro of Chester, Virginia; two
sisters, Brenda (Wray) Umstead of Huntingdon
and Laura (Jerry) Johnson of Medina; and two
grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the National
Multiple Sclerosis Society.
McEvoy Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
SHIRLEY OVERSTREET
PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: Shirley Overstreet, 60,
died Tuesday, March 4, at Lourdes Hospital
of Paducah. Funeral services were Sunday,
March 9, at 3:30 p.m. at Pettus-Rowland
Funeral Home in Paducah with Jim Ricks
officiating. Burial was at 11 a.m., March
10, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah.
Mrs. Overstreet was the daughter of the late
George and Hattie Mae Hutcherson Duckworth.
She was a former employee of Parkview
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Paducah
and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's
Witnesses. Besides her parents, she was
preceded in death by one daughter, Thelma
Ann Dumas; and two brothers.
Survivors include: her husband of 30 years,
Raymond H. Overstreet; one son, Jerome
Dumas, Sr. of Paris; two daughters, Peggy
Webb of Paris and Lottie Dumas of Paducah;
three sisters, Peggy Hatcher of Clarksville,
Georgia Foster of McKenzie, and LaCanda
Duckworth of Paducah; three brothers, Harry
and Rudell Duckworth, both of Paducah, and
Richard Duckworth of Murray; eight
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
BRENDA FAYE BOYD
1941-2008
MCKENZIE: Brenda Faye Boyd, 66, died Monday,
March 10, at her home. Funeral services were
Thursday, March 13, at 1 p.m. at Chase
Funeral Home with Bro. Doug Sellers
officiating. Burial followed in
McLemoresville Cemetery.
Mrs. Boyd was born October 30, 1941 in
Carroll County to the late Albie and Doye
(Laws) Simmons. She was a retired Office
Manager for the McKenzie Technology Center
and a member of Holladay 's Chapel Church of
Christ. Besides her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Pat Boyd.
Survivors include: two brothers, Paul B.
(Karen) Simmons of Mt. Juliet and Gayford
(Betty) Simmons of McKenzie.
GLENDA CAROL JOHNSON
1955-2008
HOLLOW ROCK: Glenda Carol Johnson, 52, died
Tuesday, March 11, at Jackson Madison County
General Hospital. Funeral services were
Thursday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at Dilday
Funeral Home with Bro. Phillip Halter
officiating. Burial followed in New Hope
Cemetery in Yuma.
Mrs. Johnson was born July 18, 1955 in
Gibson County. She was a homemaker and a
member of New Hope Missionary Baptist
Church. She was preceded in death by her
father, James Kelley.
Survivors include: one daughter, Kelley
Hollowell of Hollow Rock; one son, Jesse
Autry of Hollow Rock; her mother, Jonnie Lou
Gifford of Bruceton; four sisters, Terri
Larkins of Buena Vista, Syndey Maness and
Rhonda Kelley, both of Bruceton, and
Christie Bailey of Scotts Hill; and two
grandchildren.
JESTEEN ADAMS
1927-2008
MCKENZIE: Jesteen Adams, 80, died Saturday,
March 15, at her home. Funeral services are
Thursday, March 20, at 10 a.m. at Sajewski
Funeral Home in Detroit, Michigan. Burial
will follow at Michigan Memorial Park in
Flat Rock, Michigan.
Mrs. Adams was born May 25, 1927 to the late
Monroe and Mattie Hall Blair in Letcher Co.,
Kentucky. Besides her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Evan
Adams, and one sister, Coleen (John) Wright.
Survivors include: one daughter, Elena
(Buzz) Chapman of McKenzie; one sister, Mary
(John) Brown of Detroit, Michigan; one
brother, Dale (Jane) Blair of Barlow,
Kentucky; four grandchildren, Jennifer
Mollett, Adam (Cheryl) Martel, Chip (Debbie)
Chapman, and Jennifer (George) Jackson; ten
great-grandchildren, Evan Mollett, Samantha
Martel, Rusty Chapman, Austin Chapman, Zach
McEwen, Noah McEwen, Matt Melton, Josh
Melton, Taylor Jackson and Nichole Jackson.
In lieu of flowers please make memorials to
the Carroll Lake County Club Relay for Life
team in McKenzie.
LURA PARKER
1913-2008
HUNTINGDON: Lura Parker, 94, died Friday,
March 7, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 15, at
1:00 p.m. at Reedy Creek Baptist Church with
Pastor Falls officiating. Burial followed in
Reedy Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Parker was born October 6, 1913 in
Gibson. She was preceded in death by her
husband, George "L.G." Parker, and one son,
Charlie Parker.
Survivors include: one daughter, Josephine
Hill of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Otta
Jones Jenkins; three grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren, and two
great-great-grandchildren.
EDNA ELIZABETH WADDELL DINKINS
1913-2008
McKENZIE: Edna Elizabeth Waddell Dinkins,
95, died Thursday, March 13, at McKenzie
Health Care Center. Funeral services were
Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m. at McKenzie
Funeral Home with Bro. John Forgy
officiating. Burial followed in Carroll
Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Dinkins, a retired factory worker, was
born December 31, 1912 in McKenzie to the
late Eber and Hallie Lankford Waddell. She
was a Cumberland Presbyterian in faith.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband of 61 years, John
Howard Dinkins; and one son, Joe Dinkins.
Survivors include: one son, Robert Hugh
(Ann) Dinkins; two grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Shiloh Cumberland
Presbyterian Church in McKenzie.
MARY DOROTHY BEAL
1924-2008
HUNTINGDON: Mary Dorothy Beal, 84, died
Friday, March 14, at Life Care Center in
Bruceton. Funeral services were Tuesday,
March 18, at 2 p.m. at Chase Funeral Home
with Bro. Steve Atwood officiating. Burial
followed in Parker's Crossroads Cemetery.
Mrs. Beal was born February 18, 1924 in
Carroll County to the late Will Brandon and
Viola Bush Brandon. She was a Baptist by
belief and a retired sewing machine operator
for Henry I. Seigel. Besides her parents,
she was preceded in death by one son, Donald
Beal; two sisters, Allie May Wilson and
Brooksie Brandon; two brothers, William
Brandon, and Ray Brandon.
Survivors include: seven daughters, Frances
Pritchard of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina,
Peggy (Tony) Davis, Jo Beal, Janice (Larry)
Douglas, and Wanda Waugh, all of Huntingdon,
Kathy Jowers of Dallas, Texas, Lisa (Albert)
Frantzman of Memphis; three sons, Dan (Judy)
Beal of Huntingdon, Larry (Christine) Beal
of Red Bay, Alabama, and Michael (Rose) Beal
of Huntingdon; one sister, Shirley (Lloyd)
Crider of Huntingdon; two brothers, Johnny
(Becky) Brandon of Indiana, and Paul (Janie)
Brandon of St. Louis, Missouri; 23
grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and
two great-great-grandchildren.
BLANCHE BIRDWELL
1915-2008
CAMDEN: Blanche Birdwell, 92, died Friday,
March 14, at Camden General Hospital.
Funeral services were Sunday, March 16, at 2
p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Buena
Vista with Bro. Truman Miller officiating.
Mrs. Birdwell was born August 30, 1915 in
Buena Vista to the late Carzy Clifford Cole
and Ruth Esther Dickerson Cole. She was
employed at Publix Shirt Factory in
Huntingdon and was a member of Oak Grove
Baptist Church. Besides her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Leon
Birdwell; and one sister, Louise Cole
Smothers of Camden.
Survivors include: one sister, Ada Ruth Cole
Kelly of Nashville; and one brother, Willard
Cole of Ft. Worth, Texas.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
SHANEY CHRISTINE SCOTT
1969-2008
MILAN: Shaney Christine Scott, 39, died
Wednesday, March 12, at her home. Memorial
services were Monday, March 17, at 3 p.m. at
the House of Prayer in Greenfield with Bro.
Jimmy Ricketts officiating.
Mrs. Scott was born August 19, 1969 in
Jackson. She was a homemaker. She was
preceded in death by her father, Calvin
Staggs; and two brothers, Ben Staggs and
Mickey Staggs.
Survivors include: one son, Shaun (Felicia)
Staggs; one daughter, China Staggs; her
mother, Sharlette Duncan and stepfather, Joe
Johnson, both of Atwood; three sisters, Judy
(Dennis) Davis of Henderson, Lynn (Chris)
Evans of Michie, and Joanie (Robbie)
Carrington of Sharon; and one grandson.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
HOLLY MCMILLAN WHITE
TREZEVANT: Holly McMillan White, 39, died
Friday, March 14. Funeral services were
Monday, March 17, at 7 p.m. at Replogle-Lawrence
Funeral Home in Medina with Rev. Dale
Denning officiating.
Mrs. White was a native of Medina and was a
member of West Carroll Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Michael
White of Trezevant; one daughter, Gabrielle
Toone of Medina; one son, Thomas Toone of
Medina; one stepson, Michael White, Jr. of
Trezevant; her mother, Annie Epperson
(Russell) Toone of Medina; her father, David
(Georgia) McMillan of Gadsden; two brothers,
Brian McMillan and Ross McMillan, both of
Medina; maternal grandmother, Lorene
Epperson of Medina; and paternal
grandmother, Lowell Mitchell of Gadsden.
NELL GLYNN HOUSE SCRUGGS
1918-2008
ATWOOD: Nell Glynn House Scruggs, 89, died
Friday, March 14, at Henry County Medical
Center in Paris. Funeral services were
Monday, March 17, at 1 p.m. at Bodkin
Funeral Home in Milan with Rev. Guinn Hodges
officiating. Burial followed in Carters
Chapel Cemetery in Huntingdon.
Mrs. Scruggs was born July 19, 1918 in
Carroll County to the late Jacob J. House
and Mattie Mae Leach House. She was a
homemaker and attended Christ Chapel Bible
Church in Atwood. Besides her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon
Scruggs.
Survivors include: three sons, Garwin
Scruggs of Huntingdon, Bobby Scruggs and
Randy Scruggs, both of Atwood; four
daughters, Pat Walsh of Memphis, Sarah
Collott of Dawsonville, Georgia, Lynn
Rodgers and Barbara Rimmer, both of Atwood;
one brother, Lee House of Chicago, Illinois;
13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and
one great-great-granddaughter.
MICHAEL "MIKE" SCARBROUGH
NASHVILLE: Michael "Mike" Scarbrough, 45,
died Friday, March 14. Funeral services were
Tuesday, March 18, at 10 a.m. at Woodbine
Funeral Home in Nashville with Rev. Mark
Caruth officiating. Burial was at Seminary
Church Cemetery between McKenzie and
Greenfield at 3 p.m.
Mr. Scarbrough was preceded in death by his
mother, Patsy Webb Bryant.
Survivors include: his father, Marshall
(Margaret) Scarbrough; three sisters, Debi
(Joe) Lowe, Lori (Chuck) Anderson and Angela
(Chris) Mikolon; and his stepfather, James
"Sonny" Bryant.
SETH HAROLD COZART, SR.
1924-2008
MCKENZIE: Seth Harold Cozart, Sr., 83, died
Sunday, March 17, at his home. Funeral
services are Wednesday, March 19, at 2 p.m.
at the McKenzie Church of Christ with Bro.
Jim Roberts and Bro. John Forgy officiating.
Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Cozart was born December 3, 1924 in
McKenzie to the late Hugh Dewitt and Jewel
Mann Cozart. He was a retired truck driver
and a member of the McKenzie Church of
Christ serving as a Deacon. Besides his
parents, he was preceded in death by four
brothers, John D. Cozart, L.H. Cozart, Paul
Cozart, and Bobby Cozart; and two sisters,
Florence Nell Barler and Kathleen Pinson.
Survivors include: his wife of 65 years,
Ruby L. Nanney Cozart; one son, Seth H.
(Glenda) Cozart, Jr. of Union City; three
daughters, Janice (Richard) Ruffell, Barbara
(Grant) Elinor and Janie (Darrell) Pinson,
all of McKenzie; one brother, Tommie Cozart
of Clarksville; 10 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from
4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the church and
Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of
service.

arrangements.
MSGT. JAMES "J.C." MCDERMOTT
1931-2008
WARNER ROBINS, GEORGIA: MSgt. James "J.C."
McDermott, 76, died Saturday, March 15.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 18, at
2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church with
interment following in Parkway Memorial
Gardens.
MSgt. McDermott was born June 23, 1931 in
Gleason to the late Cliff McDermott and Lora
McDermott. He was a member of Central
Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday
school for many years and was also a member
of the Aubrey Crocker Bible Class. A. U.S.
Air Force combat veteran, he participated in
the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and
received the Bronze Star. Subsequent to his
Air Force career, he continued to serve his
country as a civil servant at Robins Air
Force Base. He retired from Robins Air Force
Base after twenty-three years of service. He
was a dedicated volunteer with the Georgia
Department of Natural Resources. Besides his
parents, he was preceded in death by
siblings Helen Sees, Junior McDermott, and
Frances Lyles.
Survivors include: his wife, Rush McDermott
of Warner Robins; one daughter, Patty (Jim)
Malpass of Augusta; two sons, Ricky (Karen)
McDermott and David (Tonia) McDermott, both
of Warner Robins; one sister, Dorothy Cooper
of Kenton; eight grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. |
