MCKENZIE - The Wildcat Health and Fitness
Complex, a partnership among Bethel College,
Sportsworks of the McKenzie Regional
Hospital and Phil Campbell of Ready Set Go
Fitness, held a formal ribbon cutting on
Friday, May 9. According to Bethel's
Director of Business Affairs, Walter Butler,
the complex is now open 24 hours a day, 7
days a week with the facility actually being
staffed 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday through
Friday. Butler said systems are in place so
members of the complex can access and use
the secured facility at any other time as
well.
"Members can enter at any time after
staff hours by swiping their membership card
through the access system," Butler said.
"And we have a comprehensive security camera
system that monitors all portions of the
complex."
Butler also said that if someone were to
enter the facility to work out after hours,
there is a security device members can wear
that if they needed help or emergency
assistance, they could activate the device,
and either Bethel security or other
emergency personnel would respond.
"There are so many people who have worked
to make this happen," Butler said, "and now
as we've opened under the radar to work out
last-minute details, the support and
interest from the community has been
amazing."
Butler pointed out that the facility will
not only serve Bethel students, faculty and
staff, but the entire community as well.
Bethel President Bob Prosser also
commented on the new facility.
"Our Bethel SIFE (Students in Free
Enterprise) team has been recognized
recently as one of 10 teams in the nation in
a Motion Picture Association of America
anti-piracy public service announcement
contest," Prosser said. "They will find out
soon if they win the contest. These students
are competing among some of the biggest
schools with vast resources ... schools like
the University of Florida. These SIFE
students are proving that Bethel is among
the top-notch.
"And this new facility is top-notch.
Everyone involved with the fitness complex
has paid the same attention to quality."
Memberships for the Wildcat Health and
Fitness Complex are available. Those
interested can either stop by the facility
next to Fred's at 103 Main St., or they can
call 731-352-3806.
