Last Thursday Ms. Gonzalez, our yearbook
sponsor, distributed information packets to
seniors to give to parents regarding parent
ads for the yearbook. Parents may purchase
1/8 of a page of $30.00, 1/4 of a page for
$50.00, 1/2 of a page for $80.00, and a full
page for $150.00. The ads may include
quotes, scripture, or meaningful comments.
All but the 1/8 size page may include a
photograph which cannot be returned. The
packet, sent last Thursday, has a form to
complete and return with a check, cash, or
money order payable to McKenzie High School.
Parent ads have a November 15, 2008,
deadline. This ad enables parents to
congratulate their child and honor them in a
special way in our yearbook.
The boys' cross country team turned in their
best performance of the year last Tuesday at
the TCA Invitational. Mark Cole continued
his impressive senior campaign with his
personal best time of 16:15 for first place.
Conor Scruton recorded a season's best time
of 18:41. Ryan Ferrell posted a personal
record time of 22:35 followed by Ramon
Hernandez with a time of 22:48. Max
Batchelor also had a personal record time of
26:47. The team will compete in the Obion
County Invitational on Tuesday (10/7).
Coach Comer and the football team are once
again visiting several area churches during
the football season. Players have the option
to visit churches on Sunday as a voluntary
activity organized by the McKenzie
Ministerial Association. They have visited
two churches so far and plan to attend two
more. Approximately 50% of the players
participate and enjoy the hospitability of
those participating churches.
This Thursday and Friday we will administer
mid-term exams to our students. Students
will take their First and Third Block tests
on Thursday. They will take their Second and
Fourth Block tests on Friday. These mid-term
exams count 25% of the nine-week grade. I
encourage parents to stress the importance
of preparation for these exams. We will hand
out report cards on Thursday, October 16.
They should be signed and returned to First
Block teachers on Friday, October 17.
Ms. Dyer and her Marketing II classes,
working in conjunction with the yearbook
staff, mailed letters last Friday to area
businesses and industries giving them the
opportunity to purchase yearbook ads.
Businesses and industries may respond to the
letter via mail to secure advertising space
in the yearbook. The Marketing II students
will do a follow-up for those that do not
respond and to meet with those that do to
discuss artwork, design, and layout. All ads
are in color. Representatives of these
businesses may call school at 352-2133 from
1:30-3:15 P.M. during the week or e-mail Ms.
Dyer at dyers@k12th.net.
Last Saturday our band competed in the
Huntingdon Marching Invitational. In the
small band category, we finished in first
place in band, guard, percussion, and drum
major. In the overall division (10 bands),
the MHS band placed first in guard and drum
major and second in percussion. The band
also received the High Marching Award and
was the Overall Grand Champions. This
weekend the band will have a mini-camp to
hone their skills for competition. On
Saturday, October 18, they will travel to
Trenton Peabody High School for their final
tune-up prior to the Division I State
Competition in Murfreesboro. They will have
a final mini-camp the week before the state
contest.
On Wednesday, October 15, we will have
picture re-takes at the high school. Last
week Lifetouch Photography returned the
photos taken at the first sitting. On the
15th we will re-take those needing it and
take the first photos for those who were
absent. Students have the option of
purchasing photos by the pre-pay method at
the time of the shoot. All students need a
photo for our database and yearbook.
Last Friday the football team notched its
fifth win of the year against Gleason by a
score of 38-14. The region game was much
closer than the score indicated as the
Rebels held a narrow 10-6 halftime lead and
a 24-14 lead midway through the fourth
quarter. The Bulldogs completely dominated
first quarter play as they had the ball for
about 10 of the 12 minutes of the quarter.
The Rebels did manage to keep them out of
the end zone in the first quarter and take a
3-0 early in the second quarter. The
Bulldogs were relentless and pushed across
the go-ahead touchdown in the second frame.
The Rebels controlled most of the second
half outscoring the Bulldogs 28-7 for the
final margin. Quentin Bowden had a strong
game on the ground as he rushed for around
150 yards and had four touchdowns. Jacob
Fussell had over 100 yards rushing also and
added a touchdown. Harris Laughrey was 5 for
5 point after touchdown and had a field goal
to start the scoring. This week the Rebels
return home after a three week absence to
play Greenfield in another key 7-A game.
Kick-off is slotted for 7:30 P.M.
The FFA Agriculture Sales team placed 2nd in
the district and 11th in West Tennessee at
the recent competition of FFA Chapters.
Members included Mariah Hart, Lacey Lane,
and Brandon Sellers. Under Ms. Lindsey
Parham, the newly created FFA Chapter has
already become active and has competed well
in district and local contests.
School will not be in session on Monday,
October 13.
As always, I hope everyone has a great week.
