CAMDEN (January 29) In high school
basketball action, the Fillies were defeated
by the Lady Lions 69-60 and the Mustangs won
the nightcap, narrowly defeating the Lions
60-58.
Lady Lions 69, Fillies 60.
Spurred by the scoring of Emily Moore and
Cassie Hassell, Camden jumped out a 17-12
lead at the end of the first period.
Camden continued to extend their lead in the
second period, outscoring Huntingdon 16-12
to lead 33-24 at the half.
Huntingdon scored 15 points in the third
period but trailed 51-38 at the start of the
fourth period.
The Fillies rallied in the fourth period to
outscore the Lady Lions 21-18 before falling
69-60.
Huntingdon was led offensively by Mikelsey
Jordan (18 points, two three-pointers), Sam
Wilks (12), Brittany Bolen (10 points, two
three-pointers) and Deidra Jordan (10). Also
contributing scoring for the Fillies were
Tashara Mebane (6) and Lisa Wheatley (2).
Camden was led offensively by Moore (16),
Hassell (13), Heather Capps (12 points, two
three-pointers) and Amanda Brandenburg (11).
Also contributing scoring for the Lady Lions
were Heather Douglas (7) and Keara White
(1).
Mustangs 60, Lions 58.
Huntingdon jumped out to a 13-8 lead at the
end of the first period. Outscored by the
Lions 11-8 in the second period, the
Mustangs clung to a narrow 21-19 lead at the
half.
Camden continued to press offensively in the
second half, outscoring the Mustangs 21-20
to cut Huntingdons lead to 41-40 at the end
of the third period.
Both teams turned up the offensive heat in
the final frame as Huntingdon outscored
Camden 19-18 and held on to claim a
hard-fought 60-58 road victory.
Huntingdon was led offensively by the strong
play of Blake Burke (27 points, five
three-pointers). Also contributing scoring
for the Mustangs were Kevin Smothers (10),
Josh McMackin (eight points, two
three-pointers), Kaleb McMinn (7), Brandon
Taylor (6) and Caleb Crocker (2).
Camden was led offensively by Leon Williams
(15 points, three three-pointers), Shae
Atkinson (12) and Kyle Herndon (9). Also
contributing scoring were Danny Plant (6),
Dakota Simmons (5) and Cody Adams (3). |
