Rebels Place Second in Big Red Classic Tournament
 

LEXINGTON (March 22) — During Big Red Classic high school baseball action, the McKenzie Rebels Baseball Team finished second in tournament play after losing to Lexington 7-5 in the first day (see sports section for game article), defeating Lexington 5-3 on the following day and defeating Clarksburg 4-3 on the final day of tournament action.

McKenzie 5, Lexington 3.

In the top of the first inning, Rebel Carr singled but was stranded on base.

In the bottom of the first, Big Red hitter Hehe drilled a double and was brought home via a Keck double as Lexington took a 1-0 lead.

McKenzie took the lead a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning as Tyler Reeder and Luke Anderson scored.

Lexington’s Johnson added a score in the bottom of the second as the Big Red tied the game at 2-all.

After a scoreless third and fourth inning, Lexington took the lead 3-2 as Allen scored in the top of the fifth.

McKenzie’s offense responded as Brown, Carr and Chappell scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift their team to a hard-fought 5-3 victory.

Rebel Kyle Kirk took the win, while Lexington pitcher Keck absorbed the loss.

Rebels 4, Rockets 3.

In a solid pitching performance between Rebel pitcher Nick Chappell and Rocket pitcher Epperson, McKenzie scored two runs in the third and two runs in the fifth and held off Clarksburg’s three-run rally in the sixth inning to win 4-3.
