BRUCETON (April 21) In District 13A baseball action, the West Carroll War Eagles, buoyed by the solid pitching and clutch hitting of Dalton Dunn, defeated the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central Tigers, 10-3.

In the top of the first, War Eagle Dunn led off with a single and stole second. Following a strike out by Andrew Wainscott and ground out to second by Hayden McClain, War Eagle Singleton ripped a RBI single to center to score Dunn. War Eagle Cryer ground out to first as West Carroll led, 1-0.

In the bottom of the first, Tiger lead off batter Haden Williams reached base safely via an infield single. Stepping to the plate, Tiger Dylan Casteel belted a double, advancing Williams to third base. Aiding his pitching cause, Tiger batter Will Roberts slapped a two-run RBI single and was replaced by substitute baserunner Kyle Hollingsworth. Following a fly out to first by Central’s Caleb Hollingsworth and single to right by Haydn Howell, freshman Elijah Phillips ripped a one-out two-run RBI over the War Eagle centerfielder’s head, scoring Hollingsworth and Howell. Digging in, War Eagle hurler Dunn forced Tiger Brandon Harrison to fly out to first and struck out Runion as Central took the lead, 3-1.

In the bottom of second, Central stranded baserunner Casteel and failed to score via consecutive fly outs to second by Tiger hitters Chance Ragsdale and Williams and fly out third by Roberts.

In the top of the third, Tiger hurler Roberts struck out War Eagle Dunn for the first out. Wainscott singled up the middle. During War Eagle McClain’s at-bat, Wainscott attempted to steal second but was tagged out by Tiger shortstop Casteel via a pinpoint throw by Central catcher Howell. McClain walked and was driven home by Singleton’s RBI single. Cryer struck out as West Carroll narrowed the Tiger lead, 3-2.

Woods ground out to the pitcher for the second out as West Carroll base runners advanced to second and third. War Eagle Dunn ripped a hard one-hopper to third. Knocking the ball to the ground, Tiger Hollingsworth’s throw to first was dropped by Tiger first baseman Ragsdale as War Eagle’s Gowan and Suite plated. During Wainscott’s at-bat, Dunn stole second. Wainscott ripped a scorching RBI single up the middle to score Dunn.
