1926-2014

Page Junior Owen, 87, of McKenzie, Tenn., died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at McKenzie Health Care Center.

He was born on April 5, 1926 in Gleason, Tenn., to the late Charles Emerson and Lula Page Owen. Along with his wife Ruth, he was the owner and operator of Junior’s Polar Bar, formerly in McKenzie, for 31 years. He was a member of New Valley United Methodist Church, a WW II U.S. Army veteran, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4939, and a Mason and member of Caledonia Lodge 96. He was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Wayne Owen; two sisters, Adele Winstead and Mamie Cuppernell; and two brothers, Eulas Wade Owen and Raymond Owen.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ruth Scott Owen of McKenzie; three daughters, Brenda (Bill) Joins of Smithville, Tenn., Anita (Mark) Montgomery and Lisa (Don) Page, both of McKenzie; a son, David (Sheridon) Owen of McKenzie; a sister, Ruby Dotson of Jackson, Tenn.; a brother, Doyle Owen of Copley, Ohio; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Owen were held January 10 at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home, with Brother Fred Morris officiating. Interment followed with Military Honors at New Valley Cemetery near Gleason.

KINGSTON EDWARD PHILLIPS

INFANT

Kingston Edward Phillips was born and died Monday, January 6, 2014 at McKenzie Regional Hospital, McKenzie, Tenn.

He is survived by his parents, Charles E. Phillips, III, and Briana Stevens Phillips of Bruceton, Tenn.; a brother, Caleb Blount; grandparents, Alan and Sandra Lewis, Charles Phillips, II, John M. Stevens, and Lou Tharpe; and great-grandmothers, Bertha Robinson and Antionette Robinson.

Services were held January 10 at Bruceton Funeral Home, with Rev. Wallace Cunningham officiating. Burial followed at New Prospect Cemetery near Hollow Rock, Tenn.


MAXINE HAMMETT

1931-2014

Maxine Hammett, 82, of Cedar Grove, Tenn., died Thursday, January 02, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.

Mrs. Hammett was born September 13, 1931 in Carroll County, Tenn., to the late Jack and Audra (Fry) Duncan. She was a retired factory worker for Basler Electric, homemaker and a member of the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Justion Hammett; three sisters, Uldean Fry, Jennie Lee Keel, Mattie Sue Roe; and five brothers, Harry Duncan, Delbert Duncan, John Frank Duncan, Joe Bill Duncan, and Clinton Duncan.

She is survived by one son, Greg Hammett (wife Ann) of Cedar Grove; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caretaker, Elsie Moore.

Graveside services were January 3 at the Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery. Bro. Robert Barger officiated the service.

LORAN C. BUTLER
1928-2014

Loran C. Butler, 85, of Hobart, Ind., died Friday, January 3, 2014 at his home.

Loran was born on January 18, 1928 in Buena Vista, Tenn. He was a longtime area resident and retired from LTV Steel after 30 years of service as a millwright. Loran then went to work for 17 years at Pinkerton Security. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a former member of the Glen Park Lodge #732 and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Right. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Medy Butler of Hollow Rock, Tenn.; brother, Olan D. and sister, Maxine.

Loran is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce (nee Massey); 3 children, Larry Butler of Haslet, TX, Jean (Bruce) Orr of Hobart, and Jerry (Amanda) Butler of Hobart; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a brother, Billy (Sue) Butler; and 4 sisters, Arabia Drinkard, Edwina Britten, Omega Hammett and Ruthel Bryant, all of Tennessee.

Funeral services for Loran are Thursday, January 9, at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, Lake Station, Ind., with Rev. Jeff Spencer officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

LOUISE G. MARTIN

1921-2013

Louise G. Martin, 92, a retired bank teller and member of Temple Baptist Church, Paris, Tenn., died December 30, 2013 at McKenzie Healthcare Center.

She was born March 29, 1921, in Obion Co., Tenn., to the late Edgar Flippin and Pearl Reynolds Flippin Scarbrough. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Gilbert and John Martin; two sisters, Frances Davenport and Christine Pinson and one brother, Alton Flippin.
Mrs. Martin was laid to rest in a private graveside service.

CONDA BROCK

1939-2014

Conda Brock, 74, of Huntingdon, Tenn., died Friday, January 03, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Brock was born October 25, 1939, in Clinchmore, Tenn., to the late Owen and Janie (Seivers) Brock. He was a retired employee of St. Joseph Hospital and a member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ. He was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Jennetta Brock; five daughters, Cynthia Cooley, Janet (Tony) Welch, Lisa (Bobby Joe) Harbin, Erin Brock, all of Huntingdon, and Jennifer Bone, of Gleason, Tenn., a son, Timothy (Olivia) Brock, of Jackson, Tenn., four sisters, Dicie Humphrey, of Lake City, Tenn., Edith Byrge, of Jacksboro, Tenn., Lula Forth, of Kentucky and Geneva Tiller, of Diamond, Ill. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were January 6 in the Chapel of Dilday-Carter Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens. Brother Dan Winkler officiated the services.

LOUISE M. EHRLICH

1934-2014

Louise M. Ehrlich, 79, a homemaker, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

She was born on February 1, 1934 in Lowell, Mass., to the late Henry and Bessie Abel Houston. She was Episcopalian.

Survivors include her companion, Cecil Johnson of McKenzie, Tenn.; two daughters, Louise Megaw of McKenzie and Gail Henton of Riverdale, Utah; two sons, Ralph Nolin of Largo, Flo. and Richard Nolin of Deerfield, New Hamp.; eight grandchildren, Evan Megaw, Riannon Marcotte, Larry Marcotte, Tristan Megaw, Jeffery Nolin, Jessica Nolin, Brenna Megaw and Heather Megaw; and several great grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Ehrlich,were held Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Janner officiating. Interment followed at Carroll Memorial Gardens.

1931-2014

Betty Joy Dinkins Floyd, 82, of Murfreesboro, died Saturday, January 4, 2014.

Ms. Floyd, a Henry County native, was born June 13, 1931, to the late Albert Clifford and Bertha Owen Dinkins. She was a member of Walter Hill Church of Christ. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Floyd, two brothers and eleven sisters.

She is survived by three daughters, Cindy (Jim) Skinner of Ohio, Teresa Floyd of Kentucky, and Delores (Edward) Wallace of McKenzie, Tenn.; three sons, J. David (Kathryn) Floyd and Kenneth Floyd, both of Murfreesboro, and William (Vera) Shipp of McKenzie; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were January 7 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, with Brother Paul Norwood and David Floyd officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery.


LISA LYNN HAYWOOD

1967-2013

Lisa Lynn Haywood, 46, of Clarksburg, Tenn., died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Haywood was born January 29, 1967 in Huntingdon, Tenn. She was an LPN for Baptist Memorial Hospital and a member of the Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her father, Jerry Thomas Simpson; step mother, Jennie Simpson and step father, Thomas Brown.

She is survived by her mother, Brenda Brown; one daughter, Madison Haywood; two sons, Justin Haywood and Joshua Haywood; her partner, Aaron Baker, all of Huntingdon; one sister, April Simpson of Antioch, Tenn. and four brothers, Lane Simpson of Palm Harbor, Florida, Shane Simpson of Antioch, Bruce Herrin of Mansfield, Tenn. and Kevin Brown of Jackson, Tenn.

Funeral services were December 23 in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment followed in Jamison Cemetery. Bro. Lynn Stapleton officiated the service.

JERRY HOLLOWELL

1949-2013

Jerry Hollowell, 64, of Westport, Tenn., died Friday, December 20, 2013 at his home.

He was born January 16, 1949 in Carroll County, Tenn. He was a member of Mt. Comfort Missionary Baptist Church and a transportation worker for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. He was preceded in death by his father, James Lexie Hollowell.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Louise (Hampton) Hollowell; one daughter, Wanda Annette Hollowell (special companion John D. Hart); his mother, Clarcie Hollowell, all of Yuma, Tenn., one brother, James Edward Hollowell (wife Anna Laura) of Kingston Springs, Tenn. He also leaves two grand-daughters, Candace Nichole Gooch and Meagan Brooke Gooch.

Funeral services were December 22 in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery. Brother Verdell Allen and Judge Donald Parish officiated the service.

BRANDY SURATT

1987-2013

Brandy Michelle Plunk Suratt, 26, of McLemoresville, Tenn., died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, Tenn.

Mrs. Suratt was born June 13, 1987, in Jackson, Tenn. She was a full-time student at Arnold Beauty School and attended Abundant Life Family Worship Center. She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Lynn Plunk.

She is survived by her mother, Julianne Plunk of Lavinia, Tenn.; her husband, Jason Suratt of McLemoresville; one son, James Robert “Bubba” Suratt; and one daughter, Alexis Denae Alexander.

Services were December 23 at Bodkin Funeral Home, with Rev. Dewayne Brown officiating. Burial followed at Cool Springs Cemetery in Lavinia.

FRANCES MARIE PINKLEY

1942-2013

Frances Marie Pinkley, 71, of Huntingdon, Tenn., died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Pinkley was born August 25, 1942, to the late Leslie and Letha Williams Yockem. She was a CNA Private Sitter and a member of New Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Hollowell and Marlon Yockem, and two sisters, Alafair Cary and Alta Hollowell.

She is survived by two sons, Barry Lockhart and Timmy Pinkley; three sisters, Ida (Bernice) Birdwell, Nellie Wrinkles and Shirley Barker; and two grandchildren, Mitchell Lockhart and Lucias Hall, all of Huntingdon.

Funeral services were December 26 in the Chapel of Dilday-Carter Funeral Home. Interment followed in New Crossroads Cemetery. Brother Jeff Bryant officiated.

STEVE WILLIAMS

1949-2013

Steve Williams, 64, of Palm Coast, Flo., formerly of Huntingdon, Tenn., died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Williams was born July 15, 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Lois Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Williams, of Palm Coast, Flo.

Graveside funeral services were December 28 at the Hickory Flat Cemetery.

WANDA FAYE COOPER

1943-2013

Wanda Faye Cooper, 70, of Greenfield, Tenn., died Thursday, December 26, 2013 at her home.

She was born April 24, 1943. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hulon & Lee Ann Cooper, and brother, Jerre Cooper.

Wanda is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jack Cooper. She is also survived by two sons, Timmy & Tommy Cooper, both of Martin, Tenn.; a sister, Doris Mitchell, of McKenzie, Tenn.; a granddaughter, Jessica Cooper, of Greenfield;  and 2 great grandchildren.

Services were Saturday December 28 at Williams Funeral Home, with Mike Crossno and Donnie Cooper officiating. Burial followed in New Prospect Cemetery.

ROY ARL TRAVILLIAN
1914-2013

Roy Arl Travillian, age 99, died Friday, December 20, 2013 at Paris Healthcare, Paris, Tenn. He was born March 24, 1914 in Piggott, Arkansas to the late Elbert (Ebb) Reavis and Daisy Dean Hughes Travillian. He was a longtime resident of both McKenzie and Gleason and most recently of Lakeside Retirement Community.

He was a wholesale business owner, farmer, and a member of the board of the Bank of Gleason. He was a 70-year member of Caledonia and Gleason Masonic Lodges, Royal Arch and Eastern Star. He was a member of Gleason Rotary Club and was selected Gleason Man of the Year in 1999. He loved gardening and sharing his produce with family and friends. He was also an avid sports fan, especially of Bethel basketball, where for many years he bought the first season ticket.

Roy was a faithful member and elder of both McKenzie and Gleason Cumberland Presbyterian churches.

Education was an important part of his life even though he struggled to finish high school during the depression. His grandfather was the first Weakley County Superintendent of Schools and Roy was adamant that all his children go to college. After he retired he entered Bethel College and after having perfect attendance for four years, graduated in 1982 at age 68. He wrote and published a book, Roy's Tales, Facts and Fiction in 1994 and in 1997 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by Bethel College.

Mary Ellizabeth Owen was the love of his life and partner for 62 years before her death in 2004. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd, Noah, Glen and Inloe Travillian and a sister, Mary Edmonston. He is survived by one son, Bobby (Cyd) Travillian of Paris and three daughters, Lynda (David) Lankford of McKenzie, Carolyn (Lindell) Roney and Beverly Spain, both of Gleason. He had nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Robby) Cole, Jonathan (Christy) Lankford, Amy (Lee) Lawrence, Jamie (Jennifer) Roney, Adrienne (Keith) Chu, Katie Spain, Chris (Vonda) Rhodes, Jon (Lisa) Rhodes and Aaron Travillian. He also leaves twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted Monday, December 23, 2013 at Williams Funeral Home of Gleason by the Reverend Jerry Lawson of Ackerman, Miss. Gleason F&AM Lodge performed Masonic Rites. Interment was in Rushing Memorial Cemetery in Gleason. Pallbearers were Jonathan Lankford, Robby Cole, Jamie Roney, Lee Lawrence, Keith Chu, Chris Rhodes, Jon Rhodes and Aaron Travillian.

Geraldine Faye Presley, 64,  a Factory Worker and Supervisor for Woodlands Inn & Country Club in Texas, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at her residence.

She was born November 22, 1949, in McKenzie, Tenn., to the late R.C. and Marie Hodge Morgan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Presley, and her sister, Kathryne Anderson.
She is survived by her son, Randy Anderson; two sisters, Phalecia Marbry and Retha (David) Jaime Luna, both of McKenzie; and Charles Morgan of Springville, Tenn.

Funeral services were December 24 at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home with burial at Carroll Memorial Gardens in McKenzie.

SHIRLEY LESSEG

1939-2013

Shirley Faye Holmes Lesseg, 74, of Memphis, Tenn., died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
She was born June 20, 1939 in Huntingdon, Tenn., to the late Buford and Lula Mae Holmes. She was a bookkeeper for Dr. H.A. Crisler for over thirty years.
She is survived by her husband Al Lesseg, daughter Lisa Buck (husband Roger) of Oklahoma City, Ok., and daughter Lynn Hamilton (husband Matt) of Edmond, Ok. She also leaves two sisters, Bertie Douglas and Joyce Sullivan, both of Huntingdon, and two brothers, Jerry Holmes of Paris, Tenn., and
Dale Holmes of Franklin, Tenn. She also leave one grandson.

Memorial services were in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home on  December 28.

ROBERT WHEAT

Robert Morris Wheat, Sr., 84, of Milan, Tenn., former technical director at MAAP, died December 22, 2013 at his home.

He was a 1952 graduate of Bethel College, a member of the First United Methodist Church, Milan, a former member of the Board of Trustees, former choir member, former volunteer for the Mustard Seed and former Chairman of the First United Methodist Church Relay for Life team.

Mr. Wheat, the husband of Mary L. Wheat, also leaves a son, Robert Morris Wheat, Jr. and wife Lee Ann, of Paris, Tenn.; a step-son, Tony Barger and wife Lisa of Huntingdon, Tenn.; two daughters, Cynthia Wheat Agee and husband Phil of Humboldt, Tenn., and Lynn Wheat Spellings of Paris; a step-daughter, Sherry Powers of Milan; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Services were December 27 at First United Methodist Church with burial in Liberty All Cemetery, Huntingdon. Bodkin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Milan, or a charity of the donors choice.

ANN GREER

1940-2013

Eleanor Ann Greer, 73, of Huntingdon, Tenn., died Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

Mrs. Greer was born May 21, 1940 in Carroll County, Tenn., to the late Kenneth L. and Virley Odell (Mann) Townsend. She was a homemaker and attended Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Duck Townsend.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James W. Greer; one daughter, Cynthia A. Sanders (husband Dennis) of Huntingdon; two sons, James W. Greer, Jr. (wife Robin Lynn) of Oakdale, Kenneth R. Greer (wife Debbie Snyder-Greer) of Marietta, Georgia; and two brothers, Larry Townsend and Terry Townsend, both of Huntingdon. She also leaves six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were December 29 in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Judge Donald Parish officiated the service.

JAMES GARNER

1933-2013

Brother James Garner, 80, Pentecostal Minister, Glazier and former State Evangelist for the Church of God Prophesy, died December 24, 2013, at McKenzie Healthcare, McKenzie, Tenn.

He was born December 21, 1933, to the late Olice Ray and Inus Wade Garner. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Glennie Raymell Crossno Garner; two sons, James Randle Garner and Robert L Garner; two brothers, Cecil Ray Garner and Paul David Garner; and one sister Doris Lucille Rogers.

He is survived by his son Tommy (Lori) Garner of McKenzie; two sisters, Mildred Louise Walker of Rutherford, Tenn., and Linda Garner Andrews of Gray Count, SC; five grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services for Brother James Garner were December 28 at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, near Huntingdon, Tenn. Brother Larry Depriest officiated. Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

SHEILA ANN JACKSON

1959-2013

Sheila Ann Jackson, 54, of Paris, Tenn., died Thursday, December 26, 2013, at her residence.

She was born September 17, 1959 to the late Newman and Charlene Chandley Borens. She worked for 29 years in the human resource office for Wal-Mart and then for Mike Wilson in the Henry County Circuit Court Clerk's Office.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Jackson; two sons, Brady (Heather) Jackson of McKenzie, Tenn. and Ethan Jackson of Paris; two sisters, Linda (Tommy) Shankle of Paris and Barbara (Arvel) Atkins of Dover, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Services were December 29 in the LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris, with Carlton Gerrell officiating.


FRANKIE VIONA TAYLOR

1933-2013
Frankie Viona Taylor, 80, of McKenzie, Tenn., a homemaker, died December 27, 2013, at Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center, Huntingdon, Tenn. She was born September 25, 1933, in Dyersburg, Tenn., to the late Walter and Eslie Opal Hammer Clendennin. She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Swanner.
She is survived by her husband, Freddie Taylor of McKenzie; five daughters, Sherry (Jeff) Tucker of Anaheim, Cal., Sharon (Russ) Bowers of Savannah, Geo., Denise Hall of McKenzie, Susan Taylor of Dayton, Ohio and Krisann (Loann) Bagat of Miami Beach, Flo.; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
There will be no services for Mrs. Taylor, as the family has chosen cremation. Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 



W.D. WILSON

1928-2013

McKenzie, Tenn - Funeral services for W.D. Wilson are Friday, December 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Brummitt –McKenzie Funeral Home with Reverend Dennis Trull officiating. Burial is at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, McKenzie, TN. Visitation is Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, noon until service time at the funeral home. 

Mr. Wilson, an assistant plant manager for Gaines Manufacturing, died December 22, 2013, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.  He was a member of First Baptist Church McKenzie and he is also a WWII Navy Veteran.

He was born January 17, 1928, in Carroll Co., TN to Lennie and Addie Barker Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Thompson and Vernell McAlexander and two brothers, Brady Wilson and George Wilson. 

He is survived by his wife, Sue Nell McKennie Wilson of McKenzie; a daughter, Debbie (Larry) Sheetrum of Searcy, AK and a grandson, Nicholas Sheetrum.

BRANDY SURATT

1987-2013

Brandy Michelle Plunk Suratt, 26, of McLemoresville, Tenn., died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, Tenn.

Mrs. Suratt was born June 13, 1987, in Jackson, Tenn. She was a full-time student at Arnold Beauty School and attended Abundant Life Family Worship Center. She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Lynn Plunk.

She is survived by her mother, Julianne Plunk of Lavinia, Tenn.; her husband, Jason Suratt of McLemoresville; one son, James Robert Bubba Suratt; and one daughter, Alexis Denae Alexander.

Services were December 23 at Bodkin Funeral Home, with Rev. Dewayne Brown officiating. Burial followed at Cool Springs Cemetery in Lavinia.


DARRELL FOSTER

1937-2013

Darrell Foster, 76, a retired, self-employed floor covering businessman and choir director, died December 17, 2013, at his residence.

He was born September 6, 1937, in McKenzie, Tenn., to  the late Robert and Frances McClure Foster. Mr. Foster was a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by three sons, Randall Foster, Carl Lynn Foster and Stephen Kent Foster, and one sister, Carolyn Crocker.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Mae Marr Foster of McKenzie; one son, Ronald (Deleta) Foster of Trenton, Mo.; one brother, Don Foster of McKenzie; one sister, Jane Ellis of Gleason, Tenn.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren

Funeral services were December 19 at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home, with Brother Bob Conley officiating. Burial followed at Concord Cemetery, McKenzie.

MARJORIE CHANDLER

1930-2013

Marjorie Chandler, 83, a homemaker and farmer, died December 18, 2013, at Oak Manor Nursing Center in McKenzie, Tenn.

She was born August 18, 1930, in Henry, Tenn., to the late Glen and Nellie Sampson Ownby. Mrs. Chandler was a member of Enon Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Paul Chandler.

She is survived by her daughter Tarita Atkinson of McKenzie and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Marjorie Chandler were December 20 at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home, with Brother Paul Conquest officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, McKenzie.

MARGARET LEE MOORE

1949-2013

Margaret Lee Moore, 64, of Huntingdon, Tenn., died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the Huntingdon Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Ms. Moore was born October 31, 1949, in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Frank Ritchey and Judson Crider Enochs Ritchey. She was a member of the Liberty All Methodist Church and a retired employee of the Carroll Farmers Cooperative. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Landon Moore, and a brother, William Enochs.

She is survived by two daughters, Lana Moore, of Huntingdon, and Lisa Looney, of Birmingham, Ala., and a brother-in-law, Charles Wesley Moore, of Bruceton, Tenn. She also leaves three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were December 19 in the Chapel of Dilday-Carter Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Liberty All Cemetery. Brother Mike Ridgely officiated the services.

JENNIE DATHEL GATELEY

1923-2013

Jennie Dathel Gateley, 90, of Huntingdon, Tenn., died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Gateley was born September 23, 1923 in Lake County, Tenn., to the late Sam E. and Lillith A. (Allen) Bolerjack. She was a retired hairdresser for West End Beauty Shop, a member of the Twin Oaks Church of Christ and a member of the National Hairdresser Association. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Jackson Gateley; two sisters, Cristine Spain, Blondell Hensley and two brothers, Leland Bolerjack and Lyman Bolerjack.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda McDonald of Huntingdon, Molly Thompson (husband Billy) of Memphis, and Joy Olree (husband Jimmy) of McKenzie, Tenn.; two sons, Richard York (wife Martha) of Milan and Allen T. Gately of Kentucky; and one brother, Lewis Bolerjack (wife Shelby) of Bradford. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren, thirty six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were December 19 in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Margaret Lee Moore, 64, of Huntingdon, Tennessee, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the Huntingdon Health & Rehabilitation Center. MAI DEA TRAYWICK

BRUCETON Mai Dea Traywick, 84, of Judsonia Arkansas, formerly of Bruceton, Tenn. died Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Oakdale Nursing Home. Funeral services were at New Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock, Tenn. on Sunday, December 22.

She was born August 4, 1929 in Fulton, Kentucky to the late Bryon and Mary Aiken. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Traywick, one brother and one sister.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Teresa (Paul) Brewer of Jacksonville, Arkansas, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. Powell Funeral Home of Searcy Arkansas is in charge.

Ben Marlin Gaines, Jr.

1958-2013

Ben Marlin   Gaines, Jr., son of the late Ben Marlin   Gaines   and Ludie Montgomery   Gaines   , died  December 17, 2013.      He was 55 years old. He died unexpectedly at his home in the Antioch community of Kentucky Lake.

Ben was born in McKenzie March 25, 1958.
   He graduated from McKenzie High School Class of 1976.    He was a leader in the furniture industry for many years as an executive with   Gaines   Manufacturing and founder of New Generations Furniture.    Most recently, he was an entrepreneur responsible for the Merchants Outlet Mall in McKenzie, TN where he treated every customer like a member of his family.  

Ben was also passionate in his philanthropy; serving on the board of trustees for Bethel University, arranging annual fundraisers and events for Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, as well as being a strong supporter of
    local communities through helping to provide funding for creation of a local church and classrooms at a local school in Jackson, TN.

Ben was reared in a family of entrepreneurs. His father moved Gaines Manufacturing from Memphis to McKenzie in 1958, the year of young Ben's birth. The manufacturing company grew and employed hundreds of area people. Ben, Jr. and others, continued that tradition, after the original Gaines was sold. They started New Generations Furniture Company, making their first upholstered furniture in the former Chevrolet dealership in McKenzie.

The staff of Merchants Outlet Mall representatives said they were deeply saddened by the loss of our owner, mentor, and friend, Ben Gaines, Jr....Our thoughts and prayers are with his boys, as well as his family.  They also indicated the store will remain open as that is what Ben would have wanted.

He is survived by his sons, Ben Marlin
   Gaines,   III, aged 23 and Bailey Ward   Gaines, aged 19.    Both are attending the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.    He is also survived by his sisters Jodie Gaines   (Jeff) Johnson of McKenzie, TN and Patricia   Gaines   (Robert) Kriebel of Franklin, TN and nieces, Jennifer (Rory) Lacey and Jessica Johnson and nephews, Scott Kriebel, Jake Johnson and John Johnson as well as a loving extended family.  

Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral service was conducted by Reverend Dan Camp
   and Wendell Moore at Antioch United Methodist Church, 3116 W Antioch Rd, Springville, TN 38256 Saturday, December 21.

Burial was in Antioch Cemetery.

Robert Bob Putman

1938-2013

Funeral services for Robert Lynn Putman were Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, McKenzie, TN.

Mr. Putman, 75, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at McKenzie Health Care Center after a brave battle with brain cancer. He was born July 5, 1938 to the late John Robert Putman and Esther Lynn (Lawrence) Putman in New Albany, MS. 

He graduated from McKenzie High School, Mississippi State University and he received his doctorate in Accounting from the University of Memphis. He joined the Army in 1960, had basic training in Fort Jackson, SC and served in the Army Reserves for six years. 

Dr. Putman was professor of Accounting at Bethel University for twenty years and at the University of Tennessee at Martin for another twenty years. He had a CPA practice in McKenzie for many years and was a past mayor of McKenzie. He was an active member of McKenzie First United Methodist church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and church treasurer. As a member of the McKenzie Rotary Club, he was twice honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. 

He is survived by his wife, Marilynn of 51 years; a daughter Carol (Victor) Parkins of Milan, and a son Paul Robert (Traci) Putman of Paris; four grandchildren, Holland (Holly) Elizabeth Parkins, Jordan Myranda Parkins, John Tyler Putman and Blair LeAnn Putman. He also leaves a sister, Betty Highfil of McKenzie and three brothers, Tom (Martha) Putman of McKenzie, Jim ( Jo Ann) Putman of Jackson and Les (Judy) Putman of McKenzie. 

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made the McKenzie First United Methodist Church, Bethel University or the Charity of your choice.
