Women’s Night Out at Gleason Clinic July 31

Gleason Clinic is hosting a free “Women’s Night Out” health seminar on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. The seminar is designed for those interested in learning more about how to have a healthier lifestyle. Alice Chapman, Registered Dietician, will present information about healthy eating and weight loss. Robyn Winkler, a certified Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor, will demonstrate effective fitness moves that can be incorporated into your already busy schedule. Tanya Arnold, a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, will be available to answer general women’s health questions.

Allen-Abbott-Furry Reunion August 3

The Allen, Abbott, and Furry family reunion will be held Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at the First Bank activity room in Huntingdon, across from Mallard’s Restaurant. This is an add-a-dish meal.

West Carroll SSD Child Find Screening August 5

The West Carroll Special School District will conduct their annual Child Find Screening for preschool age children on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at West Carroll Primary School in McLemoresville. Children who are two and one-half to four years old are eligible for a free screening in the areas of vision, hearing, speech and developmental progress. Students enrolled in home school or private schools who live in the West Carroll School District are also eligible for this free service.

Miss Southern Belle Pageant August 2

The Southern Fried Food & Sweet Tea Festival Miss Southern Belle Pageant will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Bethel University Dickey Fine Arts Building at 325 Cherry St. in McKenzie. The event is open to all Counties and winners will qualify for the Strawberry Festival Pageant. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. at the door with the pageant to begin at 10:00 a.m. A Queen and three alternates will be chosen in each division. Attire is Sunday best / pageant wear. Three optional side categories include Brightest Smile, Prettiest Hair and Flair for Fashion. Entry fee is $25.00 for Beauty and $5.00 each for the optional categories.

McKenzie Fried Food and Sweet Tea Festival

Satisfy your sweet tooth and craving for fried pickles, fried green tomatoes and mama’s Sunday dinner fried chicken, then wash it all down with sweet iced tea! Mark your calendar for McKenzie’s “Southern Fried Food and Sweet Tea Festival” Friday, August 15th from 5:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 16th from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. The festival takes place in downtown McKenzie at the Veterans Memorial Park.

This is your chance to sample those fried Oreos, fried bacon and grits cakes and many other novelties that will be featured. Enjoy this mainstay of Southern fare as you wander the craft booths and listen to a variety of music reflecting southern culture. Activities will be available for children.

West TN Veteran Association and Camden Elks Lodge Fundraiser September 6

The West Tennessee Veteran Association and the Camden Elks Lodge #2156 will be hosting a fundraiser event on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Camden Elks Lodge #2156, located at 139 Stigall Street in Camden. From 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. food plates of chicken leg quarters with sides will be available for $7.00 per plate. From 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. there will be a classic car show. A $20.00 DICE run (route to be announced) will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. A SWAG wrestling event will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. with a cost of $10.00 per person. All proceeds will go to the Veterans Cemetery Fund, located at Parkers Crossroads. Hospice Volunteers Needed

Asera Care Hospice needs volunteers to help in the Carroll County area. Volunteers provide support to terminally ill patients and their family members. Online and individualized training is provided. For more information, contact Jennifer Sauer, 1939A Cedar Street, McKenzie at 731-352-1340.

Family Caregiver Support Group

A monthly caregiver support group open to persons caring for family members meets at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at First United Methodist Church, 16 McTyeire St., McKenzie. This is an opportunity to share and learn from other people facing the ongoing challenges and frustrations of caregiving. It's an hour each month when you can get practical answers and support from people who know exactly what you are going through. If you know someone who would be interested in joining this group, please pass the word on to them.

Free Perishable Food Giveaway

Long Heights Baptist Church welcomes all who have a need for perishables at 260 Old Paris Rd, McKenzie. Join us on the second and fourth Wednesday night of each month at 8 p.m. Also, there is a clothing ministry available. Come early to fellowship and hear a word from God through Pastor Kenny Carr.

We are accepting spring and summer clothing at this time.  Please be sure they are in clean and good condition.  If our bin is full, please take items to other donation boxes.  

We give away perishable food the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 11:45 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Food:  crackers, tuna, cereal, soup, ravioli, spaghetti, and evaporated milk.

Personal Hygiene:  Deodorant, toothpaste and brushes, bar soap, & shampoo.

Miscellaneous: Dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent, household cleaning supplies, and diapers.

Assistance and Shopping from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and 9 a.m. until noon on Wednesday.  We will be closed on Wednesday afternoon and Friday and Saturday and Sunday.

Trezevant Farmer’s Market Open Every First Saturday

The Trezevant farmer’s market is open to the public on the first Saturday of every month. Everyone is invited to come sell, buy and look at the gazebo near City Hall. Vendors will have vegetables, fruits, flowers, baked goods and arts and crafts. Fifth Annual VFW Car Show

VFW Post 4939 announces its 5th annual Classic Car Show located at 9750 Cherrywood Road, McKenzie. This event is August 16th from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for three classes (Antique, Classic and Custom) with one Grand Champion trophy given out. Registration is $20 and can be made by cash or check. Early registration can be made by contacting the VFW Post 4939 in McKenzie at 731-352-9976.

There will be plenty of family fun during this event feraturing music, food and dozens of door prizes. All spectators are welcome and all proceeds will be used for VFW 4939 programs. For more information contact Robyn at VFW Post at 731-352-9976.

Liberty United Methodist Church Revival

On Sunday night, August 10, Revival services begin at Liberty United Methodist Church located at the intersection of Field School Road and Highway 423 in McKenzie. Services will continue through Wednesday night, August 13. Bro. Mark Carrigan of the First United Methodist Church in Huntingdon will be the evangelist. There will be an add-a-dish supper at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday with services beginning at 7:00 p.m. Services will begin at 7:00 p.m. through August 13. MES Sonic Night

Every Wednesday night from 5 p.m. until closing, Sonic in McKenzie is sponsoring a McKenzie Elementary School night. A part of the proceeds earned from sales that night will go to help send MES students on field trips. Sonic will be offering $1.99 Wacky Pack meals for the kids and, through the month of August, they will have half-price shakes after 8 p.m. So be sure to plan to have your Wednesday night supper at Sonic and help our students participate in fun and educational field trips.

Gleason Downtown Restoration Kick-Off Fundraiser

There will be a kick-off fundraiser for downtown restoration in Gleason on Saturday, August 2 at 5 p.m. at Huggins Park on West Main Street. There will be games, BBQ, music, family fun, and a chance to win prizes. Everyone making a donation will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win.

Gleason Clinic – Hunter Safety Course

The Tennessee Volunteer Quilt Guild is presenting a Trunk Show by Martuertte from Memphis on August 13 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Dresden. Everyone is welcome.

Bully Awareness and Wrestling Event – Free for Kids is having a bully awareness event on Friday, August 1 at the National Guard Armory in McKenzie, starting at 7 PM. Special guest speaker and former WWE World Tag Team Champion Sir Mo will talk to the kids about bullying in schools. There will also be free wrestling as part of the entertainment for the night. All kids are FREE and we are asking for a small $10 donation from adults please. is a non-profit organization. Hollow Rock-Bruceton to Honor Teachers and Staff

On Sunday, August 3 from 1:30-3 p.m., a reception will be held in the Central cafeteria to honor the teachers, administration, and staff of the Hollow Rock-Bruceton School System. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet and greet teachers, administration, and staff. The event is open to the general public.
