Obituaries June 24, 2014



Mrs. Joyce Scarbrough McBride, a retired beautician, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at McKenzie Heath Care Center. Funeral services for Mrs. McBride, 88, were Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Dennis Trull and Reverend Jason Jones officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie.

She was born March 3, 1926 in Pillowville, TN to Edgar and Ethel Burke Scarbrough. During her career, she worked at Camp Tyson in the laundry, Milan Arsenal, and operated a restaurant with her mother at Hotel McKenzie (downtown) and worked at Wilker Brothers (pajama factory).

She was a member of McKenzie First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett McBride; her son, Donald McBride; grandson, Jacob McBride; three sisters, Bonnie Lou Connell, Durell Dotson and Verna Montgomery; and a brother, Winton Scarbrough.
Survivors include: two sons, Kenny (Becky) McBride and Tim (Kari) McBride, both of McKenzie, and two grandsons.

Mrs. Ruby Carol Fowler, a retired school and hospital cafeteria employee, died Saturday morning, June 21, 2014, at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Fowler, 79, were Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home with Brother Wray Forrest officiating. Burial followed at Enon Cemetery near McKenzie.

Mrs. Fowler was born on November 27, 1934 in McKenzie to Bob and Virginia Wiseman Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 50 years, Alvis Ray Fowler, who died in 2002.

Survivors include: two daughters, Judy (Danny) Smiley Rye, and Jill (Tony) Baker Phelps, all of McKenzie; a brother, Ted Birmingham of McKenzie; a special friend, Milton Berry of McKenzie; and four grandchildren.



Graveside services for Wyatt Duren, infant son of Tim, and Johanna Duren of Dresden, were held Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Tumbling Creek Cemetery.

Besides his parents, Wyatt is survived by: his grandparents, and great grandparents, Randy & Chrystal Duren of Dresden, John Beachy Jr. of Finger, Jocelyn Moore of Paris, Leon Russell of Gleason, John Sr. and Sadie Beachy of Finger, and Mike and Dorothy Adams of Henderson. He was preceded in death by one brother, Calvin Edward Duren.



Mr. John Leonard Brinkley, 80, of Hollow Rock, died Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, June 23, 2014 in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Prospect Cemetery with Bro. Robert White officiating.

Mr. Brinkley was born November 25, 1933 in Hollow Rock to the late John Hubert Brinkley and Brooxie Nell (Higdon) Brinkley. He retired from DuPont where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a farmer, who enjoyed working his land and caring fro his livestock. He has a passion for singing gospel music. He was a member of the Carroll County Democratic Committee and the Carroll County Choir (RSVP). He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavona Brinkley.

He is survived by: a daughter Sandra (Kenneth) Henley; a son, John David Brinkley, both of Hollow Rock; and one sister, Cassie Cooper, also of Hollow Rock. He also leaves two grandchildren.



Jack Edward Riley, 70, of Gleason, died Friday, June 20, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Paris.

Mr. Riley was born on June 21, 1943 in California to the late John Riley and Adonia Bishop. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Paris.

He is survived by: his wife, Sue Gilbert Riley; a son, Scott Riley; and a daughter, Una Johnson, all of Gleason; and four sisters, Diane Mahar of Michigan, Joyce Wilhelm of Oklahoma, JoAnn Riley of Iowa, and Rhonda Sherwood of Michigan.



Robert Conklin Jr., 60, of Puryear, died Friday, June 20, 2014 at his residence. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Northfork Baptist Church with Randy Kuykendall officiating.

Mr. Conklin was born August 17, 1953 in Cornwall, NY to the late Robert Conklin Sr. and Mary Frances Slawson Conklin. He was a member of Northfork Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Agnes MacNear.

He is survived by: his wife, Wanda Mann Conklin, of Puryear; a daughter, Holly Marie (David) Big Mountain of Puryear; three sons, Kevin Vails (Sandy) Conklin of Vero Beach, FL, Keith Andrew (Christine) Conklin of Puryear, and Robert Ryan Conklin, of Puryear; two sisters, Barbara Schade of Middleton, NY, and Helen Wilson of Bloomingburgh, NY; two brothers, James Conklin of Bullville, NY, and Fred Conklin of McKenzie, TN. He also leaves nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
