What's a hit?
Web sites are hosted on "servers", and because some
servers base their billing upon each site's usage, the
term "hits" is used to gauge the number of files requested
from the server for each site it serves.
Therefore, if a visitor asks (by clicking through to a
particular web site or page) for a file from the server,
that is considered a single hit.
Many ad hosts leave customers with the general impression
that every page is considered a single hit; however, that
definition does not provide a fair measurement of server
usage. For instance, a single web page typically contains
text plus graphic images (the page's design and/or photos,
etc.) Therefore, one visit to that page is "hitting" the
server with multiple requests: one for the page and one
for each graphic image on the page. The server keeps track
of every one of these hits. This page, for example, will
produce 20 hits each time the page is called for.
Hits are also size dependent, meaning a very large file
(in terms of bytes) could count as more than one hit.

measurement of viewers served is misleading. We will
