ATWOOD (February 9) — The West Carroll Special School District school board celebrated the district’s Beta Club members for placing in the Tennessee state competition during their meeting Thursday night, February 9. Board member Keith Murray was absent for this meeting. All school board meetings are open to the public. more
The McKenzie High School Alumni Association (MHSAA) recognized two outstanding alumni at the December 19 basketball home game vs. Milan. The honorees were Ricky Price (Class of 1974) and Derek Carr (Class of 2008). more
Players, coaches and parents of the Lady Rebels softball team gathered inside Hometown Hangout June 11 for a bittersweet end-of-season banquet. It marked the end of Kristi Brown’s last season as head coach of McKenzie High School softball. more
The University of Tennessee-Knoxville released its Spring 2023 Dean’s List Tuesday, May 30. The Dean’s List recognizes the dedication required, and the contributions each student makes to the Knoxville campus and community. Several students from Carroll, Henry and Weakley counties made the spring list. more
JACKSON — Union University’s spring commencement honored 495 graduates on May 6. Nine of the 495 students are from Carroll County. more
SEARCY, Ark. — More than 600 students, including two students from Weakley County, received diplomas and were recognized as Harding University graduates for Spring 2023 during a commencement ceremony on May 6, 2023. more
JACKSON — Students from Carroll, Henry and Weakley counties were honored on Union University’s President’s List and Dean’s List for the spring 2023 semester. more

The University of Mississippi announced students named to its Spring 2023 Chancellor’s Honor Roll and Dean’s Honor Roll. Six local students made the lists. more
Hunter Shields, a 23 year old student at Tennessee College of Applied Technology Paris, became the national champion in Motorcycle Service Technology, winning the Gold Medal at the 2022 National SkillsUSA Competitions. The national skilled trades championships, held in Atlanta, were June 21-23. more
The Carroll County Technical Center announces Daniel Latimer, a senior at McKenzie High School, was awarded the Hospitality Tennessee Education Foundation Scholarship for the HospitalityTN Education Foundation. more
McKENZIE — (August 1) — Discounted admission prices for entry into home sporting events was the topic of discussion at the McKenzie Special School District Board of Education on Tuesday, August 1. more
Mr. Jamie Smith of Smith and Sons Heating/Air received a special award earlier this year from the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) at McKenzie. Mr. Smith very graciously worked with students in the HVAC program while a search for an instructor was underway. Students were able to receive on-site training while working with the Smiths. more
Coach Wilkins along with the Lady Rebels and Rebel basketball teams are back to host another year of Summer Basketball Camps to children going into first through eighth grade. more
CARROLL COUNTY — A total of 316 high school seniors from five high schools in Carroll County received diplomas during the past week. West Carroll graduated 72 on Thursday, May 11. On Friday, Clarksburg graduated 20 and Hollow Rock-Bruceton graduated 39; Saturday, Huntingdon graduated 100 and on Sunday, McKenzie graduated 85. In The Banner’s coverage area is Gleason with an expected 36 to graduate on Friday, May 19. The McKenzie Banner will publish the names and individual photos of all graduates from the five special school districts in Carroll County and Gleason. That will publish on May 30. more

ATWOOD (August 3) — West Carroll Special School District is proactively addressing security issues at each of its three school sites in McLemoreville, Trezevant and Atwood. The Board voted to start the process to possibly make upgrades at each school. That action came during the August 3 meeting at the West Carroll Junior/Senior High School. more
McKENZIE (AUGUST 1) — New state laws affecting education necessitated numerous changes in local school board policy. During the August 1 meeting, the McKenzie Special School District Board of Education approved those changes, some of which included school safety, summer school, intruder drill policy, a public comment policy at meetings, and penalties for unruly spectators or coaches at sporting events. more
ATWOOD (July 6) — The West Carroll Special School District heard a third-grade retention report showing no third graders will have to repeat the third grade during their meeting Thursday night, July 6. more
