It will take four years to complete but with 13 states and 3,300 miles already, the couple and their border collie, Jack, are well on their way to completion. more

Inglenook Book Club held its monthly meeting on October 11, 2023, at 3 p.m., at Lakeside Senior Living Community, McKenzie. There were 16 members in attendance. President Moore called the meeting to order, and thanked her co-hostess, Victoria Ard for assisting her serving delicious carrot cake and chocolate cake, along with candy corn/peanut medley, and assorted beverages. The Pledge of Allegiance, Club Aim and Club Motto were recited by all. We had two guests present at the meeting-relative to member Jean McKinnie, and our local librarian-Ceil Pomphrey, who spoke to the group. Thank you was extended to telephone chair, Victoria Ard, for her calling to all members reminding about the meeting. more

Average gasoline prices in Tennessee fell 9.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.12/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 30.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 22.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 6.8 cents in the last week and stands at $4.41 per gallon. more

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Departments of Agriculture’s Division of Forestry (TDF) is offering more than 30 varieties of tree and shrub seedlings for reforestation and conservation projects. TDF’s East Tennessee Nursery in Delano, Tenn., is accepting orders until April 1, 2024 or while supplies last. more
NASHVILLE (October 5) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is accepting Citizens’ Academy applications for the Nashville classes. The Citizens’ Academy starts on Oct. 26 and will meet weekly until Dec. 7. The one-day-a-week sessions are on Thursdays and run from 5:45 to 8:30 p.m. CT. This is not a state trooper academy. more
Alivia Green, a McKenzie High School graduate, attending Union University College of Pharmacy to obtain a Doctorate in Pharmacy was elected to serve as class president for the 2023-2024 year. As president, Alivia’s mission statement includes, “My vision is to create a strong sense of community and unity within our cohort, speak for the class as a whole, while following the guidelines as stated in the PSGA constitution, as well as encouraging and comforting my peers on harder days.” more
Six past members of McKenzie High School football homecoming royalties from 1948-64 were presented during the 2023 MHS Homecoming parade. The ladies enjoyed a gathering prior to the parade hosted by the McKenzie High School Alumni Association (MHSAA) and McKenzie City Florist and More, which included refreshments and time for reminiscing about their days at McKenzie High. more

McKENZIE (October 6) — Belle O’Brien is the 2023 MHS Football Homecoming Queen. She was crowned during pre-game ceremonies at Rebel Stadium on October 6. The candidates all entered the stadium in a convertible driven by Steven Berryman. more
