MURFREESBORO (March 13) — Kylie Reynolds of McKenzie is one of two finalists for the Class 1A, Division I Miss Basketball 2022-23. She has committed to play collegiate ball at Bethel University. Kylie and her sister, Mikaela are both starters for the Lady Rebels and helped the team earn the Class 1A basketball championship in Murfreesboro in March 2022 and 2023. She averaged 16.6 points per game during her 2022-23 season. Kylie is the daughter of Stephanie McClerkin and the late Roscoe McClerkin. more

The City of McKenzie Board of Mayor and Council meets Thursday, December 14, to approve four appointments to the McKenzie Industrial Board. Those include the reappointment of Ricky Price (2 year term) and the appointment of six year terms to Mark Anderson II, Chuck Sisson and John Wright. Also up for discussion and approval is the recommendation of Earnest Umstead to the position of Water/Sewer Department Supervisor. If approved, Umstead’s promotion will take effect January 1, 2024 with the retirement of Billy Wood. more
PARIS (December 18) — On Monday, Henry County Mayor John Penn Ridgeway announced TDOT has given the county the green light on the five-lane expansion of HWY 614 from the state line to Puryear. He said the five-lane has been approved and is in the 10-year plan for Henry County. “Everyone knows how hard we worked for this and now we’re finally on the way,” he said. more
HUNTINGDON (April 26) — The $10 annual wheel tax on each motorized vehicle registered in Carroll County should end on December 31. That’s if the Carroll County 1000-Acre Lake is purchased by the State of Tennessee, said Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler. more

MURFREESBORO (March 11) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels defended their state title by defeating the Wayne County Lady Wildcats 71-54. The Lady Rebels took a quick lead in the first quarter and added onto that throughout the night. more
The Carroll County Commission meets Monday, May 8 with an agenda containing four resolutions, two of which deal with amendments to the 2022-23 Highway Budget. Resolution 5-02-2023 amends the Highway Fund Budget $80,000 transferring from the Workers Compensation Insurance line item into the expenditure accounts to adjust line items due to cost increases in maintenance ($10,000), travel ($10,000), and equipment ($60,000). Resolution 5-03-2023 amends the Highway Fund Budget to balance the salary by $2,000 due to vacation pay for employees who have retired. more

HUNTINGDON — Huntingdon annual Christmas Parade is rescheduled to Saturday, December 16 at 6 p.m. in the downtown area. It was originally scheduled for December 9, however, severe weather was predicted and the city leaders correctly chose to delay the event. more

ATWOOD (December 7) — Students, faculty, and staff of West Carroll now have a medical clinic on campus, thanks to an agreement with Evans Clinic of Huntingdon. The contractual arrangement provides for a medical practitioner to visit the three campuses each Tuesday to serve the people at West Carroll schools. more
January Deep Freeze Closed 2022 Year Some Tennessee residents received the white Christmas they had in their letters to Santa. Freezing temperatures along with snow and ice put a damper on the holiday as TVA and local electric municipalities participated in scheduling rolling blackouts. Carroll County was to be included but the blackouts were short lived in the county. more
