Several Local Christmas Charity Drives Continue

Looking to help the less fortunate this holiday season? Although several local groups have already completed their collections for the year and have helped thousands with their efforts, there are still several charity drives right here in Carroll County where you can donate items or funds to help those still in need.

Save-a-Lot in McKenzie is offering “Bags for a Brighter Holiday” from now until Christmas Eve. Paper grocery bags on display near the registers contain eight items that go a long way to making a meal for a needy family. Shoppers can purchase the bags for $5.99 each and place them in a bin as they exit. The bags will be distributed by United Neighbors. All Save-a-Lot stores across the nation are participating and working with local charities to get the bags to families in need. For more information, visit savealot. com/givealot.

The Carroll County Humane Society hosts its annual Angel Tree beginning on December 1 and continuing through December 23. Please come by the shelter at 21822 Highway 22 in McKenzie and choose your very own angel. The shelter is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and on Saturday 10 a.m.-3 a.m. Every animal in the care of CCHS will be represented on the tree along with the animals in the care of the McKenzie City Shelter. All gifts should be delivered to CCHS no later than 1 p.m. on December 23. CCHS will be closed on December 24 and 25. A general list of items needed by CCHS cats/kittens include: Purina Cat Chow, Purina Kitten Chow, canned cat and kitten food (pate style), cat treats, cat beds, scratching posts, cat toys and baby blankets. For the puppies/dogs: Diamond Maintenance Dog Food and Diamond Puppy Food (both of these can be found at Power Supply/McKenzie Feed and Grain, Tractor Supply or Rural King); canned dog and puppy food, Made in the USA dog treats, sturdy toys (like Kong or Nylabone brand), rope toys, tennis balls and toys for small dogs/puppies, fleece throws (these can usually be found at Wal-Mart for around $2-$3) and cedar or pine shavings.

You can also help CCHS if you are going to order through Amazon this holiday season. Please go through the following link to help support CCHS: https://www.amazon. com/?tag=carrcounhumas-20 This costs you absolutely nothing extra, and the shelter gets a percentage of what you spend. This is also much better for us than Amazon Smile, which offers a much lower percentage rate. This link is good all year long and is always available on the CCHS facebook page. If you are using the Amazon app on your phone to order, load up your cart using the app, then open a browser page and use this link. Your cart will still be there with everything in it! CCHS thanks you in advance for any purchase you make through the link!

United Neighbors is accepting winter clothing at this time. Please be sure those are clean and in good condition. If the bin is full, please take items to other donation boxes. Assistance and shopping are from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and 9 a.m. until noon on Wednesday. The store is closed Wednesday afternoon and Friday-Sunday. Call 352-0547 with any questions. Donation hours: during store hours. Please no glass or boxes in the bin. Do not leave items outside!
