Brenna Smith Is TBI Intern

Brenna Smith, a 2015 graduate of McKenzie High School and student at the Middle Tennessee State University, is participating in the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Volunteer Internship Program. She applied and was accepted for the program that started Monday, August 28 with an orientation.

According to the TBI’s website, the TBI’s Volunteer Internship Program is an unpaid internship opportunity for full-time students who are interested in a criminal justice or forensic science career and are pursuing an undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate degree from an accredited college or university. The program provides an insider’s view of TBI operations and gives students the chance to explore career opportunities within the Bureau.

The Volunteer Internship Program takes place at TBI headquarters in Nashville, as well as TBI field office locations whenever possible.

Brenna is majoring in Criminal Justice Administration at MTSU, where she is on target to graduate in May 2018. She is a member of the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society at MTSU.

While at McKenzie High School, she served as the as the Tennessee youth Advisory Board member for D.A.R.E. America and attended and worked at the D.A.R.E. International Conferences in New Orleans, Grapevine, Texas, Cincinnati, and Atlanta. She attended the Youth Advisory Board Confernece in Quantico, Virginia at DEA Headquarters 2012-13. She also was a blog writer for Teens Ask Teens, a monthly blog sponsored by DEA in conjunction with D.A.R.E. America 2013.

She was a board member for Tennessee D.A.R.E. Officers Association. She was the webmaster and a guest speaker at events in McKenzie, Paris, Memphis, Murfreesboro, Jefferson County, Rhea County, and Huntingdon.

She attended the National Narcotics Detector Dog Training Conference at Paris Landing in 2015. In Murfreesboro, she attended a 12-week Citizens Police Academy conducted by the Murfreesboro Police Department.

At MHS, she was in the National Beta Club, Leo Club, and Future Farmers of America. In sports, she was on the Scholastic Shooting Sports Team 2015 State Champion Female Rim Fire, and 12th place in the national championship that year.

She is the daughter of Larry and Kim Smith of McKenzie and the younger sister to Trevor.
