Lanier Mabry Celebrates 102nd Birthday
Lanier Mabry celebrated her 102nd birthday on Friday at McKenzie Healthcare and Rehabilitation. She is a resident of Harmony Hill, Huntingdon, where she will return once recuperating from a brief illness.
Mabry was honored to have her two sons, Jim and Bob, along with other family and friends, help in the celebration. Staff members and residents of McKenzie Healthcare participated in the celebration.
Through the years, she taught third, fourth, and fifth grades in McKenzie, where she taught 39 years years until her retirement in 1980.
Until moving to Harmony Hills, she was a lifelong resident of McKenzie, where she grew up on Forrest Avenue. She married Harry Mabry in 1946 and they bought a home across the street from her childhood home.
She and her late husband had two sons, Jim and Bob.
Her dear friend, Sue Kelley, a retired teacher, turns 102 on September 25. Mabry and Kelley started elementary school together, graduated together, went to Bethel College together and then taught in the same elementary school. Sue Kelley taught first, second, and fifth grades.
