WEST CARROLL SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET

The West Carroll Special School District Board of Education meets Thursday, December 7 at the central office. The agenda includes: Spotlight — WCPS/ WCES’s Jonathan Wheeler with students and the WCJSHS Beta Club; a presentation by Interquest Detection Canines; a request to offer identity theft insurance to WCSSD employees starting next school year; approval for an overnight trip to Cookeville for a softball tournament (second reading); approval of a Chromebook bid for the SPED discretionary grant; recommendation/ approval of tenure for Melanie White (WCES); and approval of the 2018-19 school calendar.

CARROLL COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY ANGEL TREE

The Carroll County Humane Society hosts its annual Angel Tree beginning on December 1 and continuing through December 23. Please come by the shelter at 21822 Highway 22 in McKenzie and choose your very own angel. The shelter is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and on Saturday 10 a.m.-3 a.m.

Every animal in the care of CCHS will be represented on the tree along with the animals in the care of the McKenzie City Shelter. All gifts should be delivered to CCHS no later than 1 p.m. on December 23. CCHS will be closed on December 24 and 25.

A general list of items needed by CCHS cats/kittens include: Purina Cat Chow, Purina Kitten Chow, canned cat and kitten food (pate style), cat treats, cat beds, scratching posts, cat toys and baby blankets.

For the puppies/dogs: Diamond Maintenance Dog Food and Diamond Puppy Food (both of these can be found at Power Supply/McKenzie Feed and Grain, Tractor Supply or Rural King); canned dog and puppy food, Made in the USA dog treats, sturdy toys (like Kong or Nylabone brand), rope toys, tennis balls and toys for small dogs/puppies, fleece throws (these can usually be found at Wal-Mart for around $2-$3) and cedar or pine shavings.

GREATER ENON CHRISTMAS CAROL PROGRAM

The Community Christmas Carol Program is at Greater Enon, Walnut Street, McKenzie on December 12,2017 at 5 p.m..

MONDAY ADVENT SERVICES

Monday Advent Services are Mondays following Thanksgiving at Gleason UMC. The service starts at noon with a guest speaker followed by food at 12:30 p.m. Pastor Alan Trull and the congregation invite everyone to attend. The speaker and dates are as follows: December 11 — Dr. Wilma Pearson, pastor McKenzie CME Church, and December 18 — Rev. Garrett Burns, Assistant Chaplain at Bethel University.

YOUTH VILLAGES PARIS TO HOLD FOSTER CARE OPEN HOUSE

Youth Villages Paris will hold an open house Dec. 12 for anyone interested in fostering a child. The session is 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Paris office at 412 Tyson Ave. This is a free, public event. For more information, call Catherine Herrera at 731-641-4148.

HUNTINGDON SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET DECEMBER 7

Huntingdon School Board will convene Thursday, December 7, 7 a.m. for breakfast at the central office, 585 High Street. Board members will then tour the three school sites to visit with site administrators, faculty, and staff.

VFW POST 4939 KARAOKE

The VFW Post 4939 of McKenzie is hosting a karaoke night December 9 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Must be 21. ID required. Wear your ugly sweatshirt!

AARP DRIVER SAFETY COURSE

Carroll County Office on Aging is hosting a AARP Driver Safety Course on December 11 and 12, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 625 High Street, Suite 108, Huntingdon. Phone 731-986-1985 for more information.

PARIS, HENRY COUNTY OPERATION CHRISTMAS

Paris and Henry County is holding an Operation Christmas. Their mission is to provide Christmas gifts to children that have families that are facing financial hardships during the holidays. They also provide for the treasured elderly who have no family around for the holidays. You can donate items for Christmas packages for the children and the elderly by placing new and gently used items into a drop box at T.A.R.P. located at 1027 Mineral Wells Avenue in Paris. Elves are needed to help with wrapping and the party. Santa will be giving out gifts.

Gifts and collection suggestions are as follows: Youth — toys, games, basketballs, footballs, dolls, mittens and gloves; Adolescents — socks, under garments, t-shirts, tank tops, toiletries (lotion, soap, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste), sprays (Bath and Body Works type for girls, AXE for boys), nail polish, shampoo and conditioner sets, make up (eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara), ear buds, and books; Seniors — fleece blankets, boxes of cards, lotion, combs, brushes, socks, gloves, hats, blankets, gowns or pajama bottoms, and denture supplies; General Supplies — wrapping paper, tape, scissors, and shoe boxes. LONG HEIGHTS BAPTIST CHURCH PERISHABLE FOOD GIVEAWAY

Long Heights Baptist Church Perishable Food Giveaways are on the second and fourth Wednesday night each month at 8 p.m. at the church located at 260 Old Paris Road in McKenzie.

MCKENZIE INDUSTRIAL BOARD MEETS MONTHLY

McKenzie Industrial Board meets the second Tuesday of each month, 6 p.m., in the former railroad depot building.

PING PONG AT MCKENZIE FARMERS MARKET

Come to the McKenzie Farmers Market, 2451 Cedar Street, every Monday at 6 p.m. for Ping Pong. Beginners and experts are welcome, just show up with a paddle. There is no cost.

CHORUSES NEEDED FOR MAIN STREET CHRISTMAS

HUNTINGDON — Main Street Christmas will be here soon! It’s on Saturday, December 9, 2 p.m.– 6 p.m.

Churches or individuals interested in participating in the children’s or adult chorus groups, please call The Dixie at (731) 986- 2100. Adult choruses will sing on the Carroll County Courthouse steps near the Live Nativity and Children’s Choruses will sing on The Hal Holbrook Theatre stage at The Dixie. Chorus slots available between 2 p.m.-5 p.m.

WATER AEROBICS RETURNS TO BETHEL POOL

Water aerobics has returned to Bethel pool each Tuesday and Thursday at 11 a.m.

OVERCOMERS SUPPORT GROUP

Overcomers is a support group to help individuals and families overcome and manage addiction, anger, depression, codependency and alcoholism. AA MEETINGS AT MCKENZIE HOSPITAL

MCKENZIE-CARROLL COUNTY UNITED NEIGHBORS

United Neighbors is accepting winter clothing at this time. Please be sure those are clean and in good condition. If the bin is full, please take items to other donation boxes.

Food: crackers, cereal, ravioli, spaghetti noodles, and evaporated milk.

Personal Hygiene: Deodorant, toothpaste and brushes, bar soap and shampoo.

Assistance and shopping are from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and 9 a.m. until noon on Wednesday. The store is closed Wednesday afternoon and Friday-Sunday.
