10 YEARS AGO — The State of Tennessee presented two grants of $3,000 each to The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center in Huntingdon. The Community Enrichment funds were used to upgrade sound and lighting equipment and provide educational programming.
*The McKenzie Fire Department acquired a 30-foot Pierce rescue pumper to serve as the first response to rescue calls.
20 YEARS AGO — School zone signs were installed on State Route 22 in front of the new McKenzie High School designating a speed limit of 30 miles per hour.
*WHDM Radio was purchased by McKenzie Broadcast Associates, who committed to keep WHDM a community station to serve McKenzie with local news, sports, weather, agriculture news and country music.
50 YEARS AGO — Bethel College received a Higher Education Act grant in the amount of $18,932 for instructional equipment.
*Showing at the Park Theatre: Hell on Wheels starring Marty Robbins; Navajo Joe starring Burt Reynolds; Cool Hand Luke starring Paul Newman and George Kennedy; and Point Blank starring Lee Marvin and Angie Dickinson.
