McKenzie Elementary Read Across America
McKenzie Elementary School will celebrate Read Across America Day Thursday, March 1 from 5:30-7 p.m. Activities include: a Book Walk in the gym, Reading Night in the library, Book Bingo in the cafeteria, and an appearance by Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2. Cookies and juice will be available for everyone in the cafeteria.
The following day, Friday, March 2, students and teachers are invited to dress as his or her favorite book character.
Tenth Annual Gary ‘Fud’ Gooch Memorial
The tenth annual Gary “Fud” Gooch Memorial BBQ and Rook Tournament is Friday, March 9 at the Viva Dee Bolen Yuma Community Center. Rib or chicken plates are $8, served beginning at 5 p.m. Rook begins at 7 p.m. First through fourth place will receive a trophy. Proceeds go to the community center. Cooking will be Ricky “BBQ” Wood.

Miss Hope 2018 Pageant
The Miss Hope 2018 pageant to benefit Carroll County Relay For Life is Saturday, April 7 in the Huntingdon Middle School cafetorium at 199 Browning Avenue, Huntingdon. Doors open at 1 p.m.; pageant begins at 2 p.m. with the 0-12 month group. Following will be 13-23 months, 2-3 years, 4-5 years, 6-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-15 years and 1621 years. The beauty pageant is $20; additional categories (Best Dressed, Prettiest Hair and Prettiest Smile) are $5 each. Enter all categories for $30. Contestants are asked to be dressed and ready ten minutes prior to your group time. Queens in each category over 6 years qualify for the 2018 Strawberry Festival. All festival rules apply. Vale Community Center St. Patrick’s Celebration
The Vale Community Center is hosting a “Luck of the Irish – St. Patrick’s Celebration” on Saturday, March 17 at the center located at 26165 Highway 114 north of Hollow Rock from 3-7 p.m. Come join the fun and enjoy the delicious Irish stew, bread, dessert and drink for only $7. Lawrence Designs Grand Opening Weekend
Lawrence Designs, 19707 East Main Street, Huntingdon (across from Mallard’s), is hosting a Grand Opening Weekend March 1-3 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. Carroll County Election Commission to Meet
The Carroll County Election Commission meets Tuesday, February 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Election Commission Office at 625 High Street, Suite 113, Huntingdon. The agenda includes: appointment of election officials for the May 1 Republican Primary, the May 1 Republican Primary and the certification of voting machines on March 7 at 9 a.m. The floor will be open for a public forum at the end of the meeting. If you wish to address the county election commission during the open forum, please contact the election office at least 24 hours before the meeting for placement on the agenda.
The family of the late Morgan Fuller is hosting a fundraiser to help families with children with health problems, families in need, and for college scholarships.
The event is at the Carroll County Civic Center, 201 Fairgrounds Road, Huntingdon, Tenn. on March 3. Doors open at 5 p.m. and festivities are at 5:30 p.m.
Activities include food, live music, fun, and fellowship. Tickets are $10 per person and include a catfish dinner.
FullerStrong 5K Run
The first FullerStrong Foundation 5K Run is Saturday, March 3, 8 a.m. in downtown Huntingdon. The 5K run starts at 8 a.m. and the one-mile fun run is 8:10 a.m. Entry fee is $20 for adults, $15 for students. Shirts only are $15. Registrants prior to February 19 are guaranteed a printed t-shirt. The Paws for a Cause 5K series in McKenzie is Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. at the city park, 570 Como Street. This family/dog friendly event is a must have on your racing/walking calendar. This 5K benefits the Carroll County Humane Society. Bring your dogs, on a leash, and help support CCHS, get some exercise and have some fun!

2018 Miss Tater Town Pageants
The annual Tater Town Pageants will be held on Saturday, March 10, at the Gleason School Gymnasium, beginning at 1p.m. Registration will begin at 12:30. Categories for boys and girls are: 0 thru 11 months; 1 year olds; 2 year olds; 3 year olds; 4 and 5 year olds; and 6 thru 9 year olds.
