McKenzie School Board Honors Retirees

McKENZIE (May 1) — The McKenzie Special School District Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting Tuesday in the McKenzie Elementary Library. Topping the agenda was recognition of four retiring employees.
Chairman John Austin presented gifts to second grade teacher Betsy Campbell, district food service supervisor Rita Brandon, high school secretary Mary Walker and middle school special education teacher Donna Lacey. The four will also be honored during the annual Retirement Luncheon on Thursday, May 17 at noon in the McKenzie High School cafeteria.
Also recognized were Emma Renfro, who served as the student representative to the board during the 2017-18 school year, and Isabella Colotta, who will serve as the representative during 2018-19. Renfro was presented a token of appreciation from the board.
The board also heard a report from Carroll County Coordinated School Health Director Mandy Drewry and her assistant Jennifer Medford on the programs and activities carried out during the school year.
Members approved budgets amendments to account for a $45,000 federal grant for the Read to be Ready summer program and to shift $441.36 in Title 3 funds into instructional supplies from several other line items.
In his report, Director of Schools Lynn Watkins noted that Teacher Appreciation Week begins Monday, May 7. He consulted board members and a budget workshop was set for Thursday, June 21 at 5:30 p.m. and the regular meeting for Tuesday, June 26 at 5:30 p.m. There will be no July meeting.
