10 YEARS AGO — Construction began on $2.7 million in improvements to Carroll County Airport, including leveling a “runway safety area,” extending the taxiway, resurfacing the asphalt runway and ramp and relocating the fuel depot.
20 YEARS AGO — Carroll County voters elected a new county executive. Democrat Kenny McBride bested a field of six candidates for the position. The election also saw a large turnover in the county commission as nine new commissioners were elected. Six incumbents failed to earn reelection.
*First-day enrollment numbers at Carroll County Schools: McKenzie – 1,354; Huntingdon – 1402; West Carroll – 1157; Hollow Rock-Bruceton – 830; South Carroll – 411.
*Students walked the halls of the new Huntingdon Middle School for the first time.
50 YEARS AGO — Showing at the Park Theatre: A Fistful of Dollars starring Clint Eastwood; The Last Safari starring Stewart Granger; Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter starring Herman’s Hermits and Stanley Holloway; and The Hellcats starring Ross Hagen and Dee Duffy.
