SHARON (September 11) — The McKenzie High School golf teams competed Monday at the District 14 Golf Tournament at Persimmon Hills Golf Course.
The Lady Rebels won the District Championship, defeating seven other teams, with their closest competitor finishing 17 strokes behind McKenzie’s 164 total. Maggie Glass was both the team and tournament medalist, shooting 78. Mallory Cole and Julie French added an 86 and 91, respectively. Cole and French finished second and fourth, respectively, behind Glass as the team had three of the five tournament medalists.
On the boys side, the Rebels finished a close second to Martin- Westview, shooting 319 and losing by only six strokes while defeating six teams en route to their runner-up finish. Anders Rider led the way with a one over par 73, tying for the low score of the tournament. Johnathan Moore followed with a 78. Ben Austin shot 80, with both Will McBride and Will Jones shooting 88. There were three playoffs to determine the five boys’ medalists. After those were completed, Rider, Moore, and Austin finished second, fourth, and fifth, respectively, equaling the girls performance with three tournament medalists.
The girls record is now 34-4, while the boys are 38-6.
Both teams advance to region play next Monday at Milan Country Club, where only the Region champion advances to the state tournament, as do the top three individuals who aren’t on the winning team.
If you see any of these young men and women, congratulate them on not only an outstanding tournament performance, but also on how they represent McKenzie High School with their conduct, character, and demeanor. McKenzie High School can be proud of these twelve young people.
