McKenzie Police Department Receives Federal Grant
McKENZIE (October 3) — The Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) announced a $5,000 in federal grant funds for the McKenzie Police Department for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. The funding will be split with $2,500 going towards purchasing new equipment to help improve traffic safety enforcement, and $5,500 will pay officer overtime for DUI saturation patrols and sobriety check points.
Approximately 400 grants exceeding $18 million will be distributed statewide from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through the TSH to support local highway safety initiatives. Applicants who met the required data-driven criteria and high safety standards were awarded grant funds to support the THSO’s mission to reduce traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities. The THSO grant funding provides essential highway safety training and equipment for law enforcement agencies.
