McKenzie School Board Meets with Light Agenda
BY BRAD SAM
McKENZIE (October 3) — The McKenzie Special School District Board of Education met briefly Tuesday with a light agenda of mostly routine annual housekeeping.
Budget amendments were approved covering the purchase of assessment tools and the hiring of a substitute who will also serve as a bilingual tutor.
The grading system policy was updated to remove a line naming the priority date for FAFSA completion, because different scholarships have different deadline dates.
Annual reports of textbook compliance and school system/ school compliance were also approved.
Approved as the system’s Disciplinary Hearing Authority were resource officer Nick Lowe, elementary principal Tim Barker, middle school principal Dorethea Royle and high school principal Tim Watkins.
In his reports, Director of Schools Lynn Watkins noted the employment of educational assistant Cadence Dawson, food service employee Patricia Lee and substitute teachers Megan Gottshall, Lindsey Grissom, Robert Little and Eric O’Neal.
He also recognized the high school golf teams for advancing to the state tournament, the girls soccer team for advancing to the regional tournament and elementary librarian Carol Nanney for being named the West Tennessee Teacher of the Year.
The meeting adjourned after 15 minutes.
Board members Greg Barker and Brad Davis were absent.
There will be no meeting in November; the board will reconvene on December 5.
