Coach Rusty Thompson (266205-3) enters his eleventh season as the Bethel Wildcat skipper. He and his staff are excited about the 2018 season. Assistant Coach Nick Thompson enters his eleventh season while Lee Whitaker will be his making his debut as an assistant on the staff. Nolan Smith enters his second season as student assistant. The staff looks forward to competing in the always tough Southern States Athletic Conference which is recognized as one of the best in the nation.
Bethel returns five starters from the 2017 campaign, each looking to contribute significantly once again. Seniors Colin Roberts and Kendall Adkisson are two returning starters on the infield. Roberts looks to once again be the anchor in the middle of the order for the Cats while Adkisson looks to end his four- year campaign with the Wildcats on a high note. Also returning is standout closer Axel Metzger who looks forward to shutting the door for the bullpen in his senior season.
Bethel was 27-22 overall last year and finished 13-11 in the SSAC. The Bat Cats open the season February 1, 2, 3 with a four game home set against Columbia College. On Thursday action begins at 1 p.m. Friday’s twinbill begins at noon and Saturday’s single game begins at noon.
The Wildcats play 20 of their first 21 games at home this year. It will be a new look to Wildcat Park with the installation of lights and a new scoreboard. Times for all games will be posted on the Bethel athletic website at www. bethelathletics.com.
