Video Visits Now Available at MMC
Sometimes getting to the doctor’s office is hard to do; you don’t feel good, you don’t have reliable transport, you can’t miss work, you don’t want to expose yourself to other sicknesses i.e. the flu…there are lots of reasons. With the advances in technology and access to highspeed internet connections now there is a solution with Video Visits. All you need is a smart phone or computer to be able to “see” your doctor without stepping foot into the medical center.
A Video Visit is like an in-person visit, except done through a webcam either via your computer or smart phone. The doctor examines the patient via a video conference without the doctor and patient physically present in the same room.
90% of health leaders are developing or implementing telemedicine technology such as Video Visits. McKenzie Medical Center (MMC) recently started this service in August 2017 as an attempt to ensure its patients are receiving the quality care they need even if they cannot make it into the office.
“I don’t like going to the doctor’s office and I really don’t like sitting in the waiting room. So, I think video visits are an awesome option,” comments an MMC patient.
MMC is one of the first medical clinics in West Tennessee to offer this service to its patients.
“Video visits are changing health care,” states Lori Holladay, an MMC provider in the Urgent Care Walk In department, “It saves our patients travel time, and keeps them from sitting in waiting rooms with other sick patients. We are very excited to be able to offer this to our patients.”
Video visits are available for a number of minor illnesses such as colds, flu, fever, coughs, ear pain, headaches, migraines, minor cuts, burns, rashes, urinary tract infections, pink eye, stomach aches and more. Please note no pain management appointments via video visits.
You may access this service by logging onto your patient portal via www.mckenziemedicalcenter. com or signing up for your free portal app and requesting a video visit with MMC Nurse and Provider. Once logged in to your FollowMy-Health account, request a Video visit. You can do this from the main menu on your mobile device or on the homepage if viewing on your desktop. Once selected, confirm the details of your visit and go to the virtual waiting room. Your clinician will start the visit when it’s your turn. This service is available on Monday through Friday 8 a.m. — 7 p.m.
