Huntingdon Sweeps Camden, Honors Seniors

HUNTINGDON (February 9) — Huntingdon honored its senior basketball players and cheerleaders Thursday night between the teams’ final home games of the regular season. The Fillies blew past the Camden Lady Lions, 79-34, and the Mustangs came out on top in a back-and-forth with the Lions, 78-76.

Senior Fillies are Grace Angelos, Cheyenne Childress, Jesica Keith and LeAnn Webb. Senior Mustangs are Keeton Bailey, Devin Brown, Dylan Johnson, Davion Phillips, and manager Blake Poole. Senior cheerleaders are Katie Bennett, Haidyn McLemore and Tori Townsend.

Also honored during the evening was Mustang basketball volunteer Leo Leathers. Modern Woodmen representative Tim Jordan presented him with a Hometown Hero award and made a donation of $100 to the charity of Leathers’ choosing.

Huntingdon Fillies 79, Camden Lady Lions 34

The Fillies had a strong opening frame on both ends, creating numerous Camden turnovers and capitalizing offensively for a 24-6 lead. Taylor Smith led the way with nine points, including a pair of three-pointers. Jesica Keith scored six, and Cheyenne Childress had four points. Rounding out the scoring were Grace Angelos with three points and LeAnn Webb with a pair. Lady Lion Payton Hunt hit a three, and Brittney Fox also scored three points.

The second quarter went much the same, as Huntingdon outscored Camden, 19-9. Webb scored six on a pair of threes, and Childress and Marisa Belew each had four. Angelos and Keith each added a pair, and Smith hit a freebie. Lady

Huntingdon doubled up the Lady Lions, 22-11, in the third, led by Childress with eight points. Smith scored four, and Belew had three. Webb, Angelos and Kaci Fuller each had a pair, and Leah Hayes hit a free throw. Minor scored six for Camden, Fox had three points, and Brenna Caldwell had a pair. Entering the final frame, the Fillies led, 65-26.

Huntingdon’s reserves finished off the win with a 14-8 advantage in the fourth. Fillies Adyn Swenson and Macey Culbreath each scored four, while Childress, Fuller and Hayes each added a pair. Fox and Morrison each hit a three-pointer for Camden, and Minor added a pair.

Huntingdon’s Cheyenne Childress led all scorers with 18 points. Taylor Smith scored 14, including a pair of threes. LeAnn Webb scored ten, also with a pair of threes.

Brittney Minor led the Lady Lions with a dozen.

The Fillies outrebounded the Lady Lions, 35-19, led by Cheyenne Childress with ten. Marisa Belew had eight boards, and Jesica Keith had five. Brittney Minor led Camden with seven rebounds.

Mustangs 78, Lions 76

Camden took a 17-13 firstframe lead in the nightcap. Lion Cody Brown scored seven, including a three. Dalton Furr scored four, including a three, and Colton Smith also scored four. Hunter Vick had a pair. Mustang Keeton Bailey scored five, including a three, and Dallas Willis had four. Dylan Johnson and Davion Phillips each had a pair.

Huntingdon responded with a 20-13 advantage in the second quarter to take a halftime lead. Ke. Bailey scored eleven, including a three. Phillips and Kaleel Bailey each had four, and Tyrese Mebane hit a three. Vick scored four for Camden, and Sage Duffey hit a three. Furr, Smith and Brown each added a pair. At the half, the Mustangs led, 35-30.

Camden edged Huntingdon, 22-21, to cut the deficit in the third. Vick scored 17, including a pair of threes. Furr had five points, including a three. Phillips scored six for the Mustangs, and Ke. Bailey and Jeremiah Pearson had four each. Ka. Bailey hit a three, and Johnson and Willis each added a pair. Heading into the final frame, Huntingdon led, 56-52.

In a thrilling finish, Camden won the fourth, 24-22, before losing by two points. Brown scored eight, including a pair of threes, and Vick had six points. Davis Hopkins had four, and Furr and Smith each hit a three. Pearson led the Mustangs with eight, including a three. Ke. Bailey scored seven, and Phillips scored four. Johnson hit a pair of free throws, and Mebane hit a single.

Lion Hunter Vick led all scorers with 29 points, including a pair of threes. Cody Brown had 17, including a trio of threes, and Dalton Furr scored 14, also with a trio of threes.

Keeton Bailey led the Mustangs with 27, including a pair of threes. Davion Phillips scored 16 points, and Jeremiah Pearson had a dozen, inlcuding a three.

The teams were even on rebounds with 29 each. Lion Colton Smith led all players with ten, while Hunter Vick had seven and Dalton Furr had six. Davion Phillips led Huntingdon with seven rebounds, and Keeton Bailey had six.
