Rebels 42, Lions 7
McKenzie struck early in the first frame at the 9:39 mark as Joseph Miller raced through a gap in the Rebel line 45 yards to paydirt. Lucas Waddell’s PAT boot was no good as McKenzie led Scotts Hill, 6-0.
Responding, Lion Brady Moore returned the Rebel kickoff 71 yards to score and added the PAT boot as Scotts Hill took the lead, 7-6, at the 9:09 mark.
From there, it was all McKenzie as the Rebels offensive took over.
On the ensuing offensive drive, Rebel Lorenzo Haynes scored from two yards out and Waddell’s PAT boot split the uprights as McKenzie took the lead for good, 13-7.
Shutting down Scotts Hill’s defense, McKenzie’s Miller tallied a 75-yard touchdown dash at the 8:42 mark of the second canto. Waddell’s PAT boot was true as McKenzie grew its lead, 20-7.
Continuing to stymie Scotts Hill’s offense, McKenzie added a Lorenzo Haynes four-yard scoring burst and Waddell two-point conversion bull to increase its lead, 28-7.
With time waning in the first half, Haynes added a one-yard touchdown rush up the middle and Waddell converted the PAT boot as McKenzie trotted to the locker room leading Scotts Hill, 35-7.
After Miller scored from three yards out and Waddell added the Rebel’s final point of the contest via PAT boot to widen McKenzie’s lead to 42-7, reserves for both teams flooded the field of play as neither teams scored for the remainder of the contest. The Rebels were under the field leadership of quarterback Evan Jarrett to close out the game.
On Friday, the Rebels (2-1) host TCA in region play. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
