McKenzie Rebels Sweeps Central Tigers

McKENZIE (January 5) — McKenzie hosted Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School for a pair of district hoops contests Friday night. The Lady Rebels built an early lead over the Lady Tigers and coasted to a 58-29 win. The Rebels followed suit for a 70-32 victory of the Tigers.

The Lady Rebels jumped ahead 18-5 in the opening frame, led by Jacey Davis with ten points, including a pair of three-pointers. Shelby Davis scored five, also with a three. MiKayla Gill had a pair, and Whitley Smith hit a free throw. Lady Tiger Faith McWilliams hit a three, and Brylee Williams scored two points.
McKenzie grew its lead in the second quarter, outscoring Central 15-8. Lady Rebel Shelby Butler scored six on a pair of threes, and J. Davis hit another three. S. Davis, Lilly Bennett and Bailey Nelson each had a pair. Williams scored five for the Lady Tigers, Haley Hughes had a pair, and Makayla Burton hit a free throw. At the half, McKenzie led 33-13.
Central cut the deficit by a point in the third, edging the Lady Rebels 9-8. Lady Tiger Olivia Lowry scored five, including a three-pointer, and Williams had four points. Butler hit another three for McKenzie, J. Davis and Smith each added a pair, and Brooke Hobson hit a free throw. Entering the final frame, the Lady Rebels led 41-22.
McKenzie sealed the win with a 17-7 advantage in the fourth, led by Savannah Nesbitt with four points. Smith and Isabella Colotta each hit a three, J. Davis, Butler and Hobson each added a pair, and Anna Callahan hit a free throw. Williams hit a three for Central, and Hughes and Madison Johnson each scored two points.
Lady Rebel Jacey Davis led all scorers with 17 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Shelby Butler scored eleven, also with a trio of threes.
Brylee Williams led Central with 14 points, including a three- pointer.
Rebels 70, Tigers 32
McKenzie set the tone in the first frame for an 18-3 lead, led by Micah Austin with seven points, including a three-pointer. Nate Whitsell scored four, and Lane Horton had three points. Lucas King and Tyler Spivey each had a pair. Tiger Mason Binkley hit a three.
The Rebels upped the lead with a 20-8 advantage in the second quarter. King led McKenzie with nine, including a three. Ben Austin scored four, Lazarick Hill hit a three, and Horton and Chase Colotta each had two points. Tiger Thomas Crews hit a three-pointer, Gage Lowry and Zane Mebane each had a pair, and Jacob Ervin hit a free throw. At the half, the Rebels led 38-11.
McKenzie outscored Central 21-9 in the third, led by King with seven, including another three-pointer. Whitsell scored four, and Noah Hawkins hit a three. Hill, Horton and Stephone Haynes each had a pair, and B. Austin hit a freebie. Tiger Justin Haskins scored three points, Binkley and Brayden Frye each had a pair, and Ervin and Lowry each hit a freebie. Heading into the final frame, the Rebels led 59-20.
The Tigers edged McKenzie 12-11 in the fourth, led by Binkley with six on a pair of threes. Davion Harris and Cameron Sala each hit a threepointer. Rebel Cameron Kee scored six on a pair of threes, West Cook and Jaden Currie each had a pair, and Johnathan Moore hit a free throw.
Rebel Lucas King led all scorers with 18, including a pair of threes. Nate Whitsell scored eight points.
Mason Binkley led Central with eleven points, including a trio of threes.
