Bethel’s Jones Pitches No Hitter
McKENZIE — After losing a 2-1 heartbreaker Friday to No. 6 William Carey the Bethel Wildcats needed a pick me up Saturday and boy did they get one. Senior right-handed hurler Brady Jones fired a no-hitter against one of the best hitting line-ups in the SSAC. The Manilla, Arkansas native struck out 11 Crusaders in route to the victory.
Bethel scored single runs in the first and second innings. They added a two spot in the third.
Lucas Riddick, Austin Brenner, Randy Guevarez and Colby Poston each drove in a run for the Wildcats. Riddick and Poston both had two hits in the eight hit attack by the Cats. Cole Edgens suffered the Crusader loss.
WCU had their hitting shoes on in game two. They pounded out 13 hits against four Wildcat pitchers in route to a 10-4 win. Bethel’s Jackson Hollinshed drove in three runs while Jacob Foster had one RBI. Conner McWilliams picked up the WCU win. John Michael Spoon was charged with the Bethel loss.
William Carey left McKenzie with a 16-4 overall mark and a 2-1 league record. Bethel is 5-8 and 1-2.
The Cats travel to William Baptist Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. They return home Friday for a three game weekend conference series against Brewton-Parker.
