DISTRICT 13A SOCCER TOURNAMENT
Rebels End Season with Four-Overtime Loss to Union City

UNION CITY (May 8) — The McKenzie High School Rebel soccer team ended the season in the District 13A semifinal Tuesday, falling in four overtimes to tournament host Union City.
The match was knotted at 2-2 after regulation and remained tied through two scoreless tenminute overtimes. That led to five-minute “Golden Goal” overtimes, with the first goal ending the contest. No one scored in the first, but the Tornadoes scored during the second five minutes to win, 3-2.
Diego Calderon and Francisco Padilla each scored a goal. Goalkeeper Martin Perez had 14 saves.
At the conclusion of the tournament later in the week, players were named to the all-district and all-tournament teams.
Named to the All-District 13A Team were Nikolas Heath and Francisco Padilla.
Named to the All-Tournament Team were Braulio Vega, Eduardo Vega and John Mendez.
Named Defensive Player of the Year was Martin Perez.
