MHS Golf’s Annual Par 3 Extravaganza is Saturday
BY BRAD SAM
The McKenzie High School Golf team will host its annual Par 3 Extravaganza Saturday, June 9 at approximately 4 p.m. at Carroll Lake Golf Club.
All 18 holes will be played as Par 3 by three-person teams. Entry is $35 per person or $105 per team.
The event is a major fundraiser for the MHS golf program. Both the boys and girls teams went to the state tournament this year.
Head Coach Larry Joe Smith told The Banner, “Being successful can be costly for a program that receives no funds from the school.” He credited the community for its generosity and support, especially sponsors who purchased signs. Coach Smith said that there would be cash prizes for first place, tenth place and 20th place, and that there would also be some “closest to the pin” prizes. He said that the event would provide a unique golfing experience on every hole.
He noted that the competition would likely be limited to 36 teams. To reserve a spot, see the McKenzie High School Rebels Golf Facebook page or call Smith at 731-415-7371. Forms are also available at the golf course.
The team will also be raffling off several items: a handmade duck call, a guided quail hunt, an Orca item, four tickets and a parking pass for the Tennessee/Charlotte college football game on November 3 and a $50 Sonic gift card. Chances are one for $5, five for $20 or 15 for $50. Drawings will be held at McKenzie’s home football game against West Carroll on August 24.
