McKenzie Shooting Sports Team Earns Many Accolades

The McKenzie Shooting Sports Team has been busy participating in Regional, State and National Competitions the last few months. Regional competitions were held at Carroll County Shooting Sports Complex in Huntingdon and at Holly Fork in Paris. Shooters participated in Skeet, Sporting Clays and Trap.

The team took awards in each of the shooting disciplines.

Sporting Clays

Awards taken home for the state competition are:

Sporting Clays

Skeet

Intermediate Entry Division, Second Place Team and First Place Squad — Trey Bowers, Tanner Floyd, Drew Smith Ladies Rookie, Second Place — Carli Beeler During the week of July 14-July 21, the team traveled to the Cardinal Center, located in Marengo, Ohio, to compete in Nationals. A total of 275 teams from 26 states participated – some as close as Ohio and some as far as Washington. Over 2,700 athletes competed with over 1.25 million competition shots fired over eight days.

The McKenzie team pulled off some awesome scores. There were rain and lightning delays during a few days of competition. Logan Green shot his first 100 straight in Trap. The awards brought home from nationals are:

Skeet

Rifle

Intermediate Divisions, First Place Iron and Third Place Optics — Sawyer Phipps, Isabelle Wright, Zach Chandler, Jacob Dickson Rookie Division, Third Place Iron — Reese Gallimore, Miles Beeler, Jacey Pinson, Coleson Cook The McKenzie Shooting Sports Team has several members selected for the All-Scholastic Team. The All-Scholastic team is made up of the top student-athletes in the SSSF’s Scholastic Clay Target and Scholastic Action Shooting Program for their achievements in the classroom, on the range and in their communities. Through an application process, 2018 All-Scholastic Team Members have proven academic excellence by posting 3.0 or better grade point averages, shooting excellent scores in recent competition (95% in trap or skeet, 85% in sporting clays, 88% in international trap/skeet or 75 seconds or less for SASP) and by demonstrating outstanding community involvement. The members are: Drew Beeler, Logan Green, Ashton Marr, Will Mc-Bride, Nathan Nanney, Jacob Pinson, Anders Rider, Isabelle Wright Jacob Pinson was a SCTP Scholarship recipient for 2018.

Anders Rider was a SASP Scholarship recipient for 2018.

The team also participates in a variety of fun, team-based shooting tournaments to support organizations in our area such as FFA, Rotary, Macedonia Fire Deptartment and Shooting Hunger.

The McKenzie Shooting Sports Team, Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) provide student-athletes aged elementary through college with a supportive environment where shooting sports serve as catalysts for teaching life lessons and skills that emphasize positive character traits and citizenship values. Throughout all training, practice and competitions, we continue to instill in our athletes a commitment to safe firearm handling, teamwork and leadership.
