NASHVILLE — Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed the Tennessee Disability and Aging Act, legislation that merges Tennessee’s Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) and Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD), creating a new Department of Disability and Aging (DDA). The bill received unanimous, bipartisan legislative support and was backed by numerous stakeholders. more

McKENZIE (April 10) — After four years of tighter shooting and selling dates on fireworks, the City of McKenzie rolled Ordinance 566 back to the original two-week window. After the first reading, Ordinance 566 allows the sale and shooting of fireworks beginning June 20 through July 5 and December 20 through January 1. more

HUNTINGDON (April 8) — On Monday, the Carroll County Commission met approving a significant paving project to be undertaken by the Carroll County Highway Department. Carroll County received a $3 million portion of the grant, $2,961,173 from the state with the county spending roughly $68,000. The Highway Department’s match was factored into the FY Budget 2023-2024. more

Spectrum today announced The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center (The Dixie PAC) will receive $10,000 through the 2023-2024 Stand For The Arts Awards, a partnership with Ovation TV that recognizes local arts, cultural and educational organizations and programs. Since the initiative started in 2017, Ovation TV and Spectrum have given out 70 awards totaling $700,000 towards arts education. more

HUNTINGDON (April 5) — On Friday, after nearly a year of delays, the case against Carroll County Commissioner William “Lin” Smith, former Carroll County District 8 Fire Chief, and his wife, Malisa “Lisa” Smith, former department treasurer, has come to a close through a plea agreement. The Smiths pled guilty to a Class C Felony for theft over $30,000. According to documents provided by the 24th Judaical Circuit Court, the couple will repay $30,150.86 in restitution to the District 8 Volunteer Fire Department and will receive six years of supervised probation in lieu of jail time. After the probation and if restitution ($418.76 monthly repayment) is met, the felony will be expunged from their criminal record. more
